Description
Sesshōmaru is a full-blooded dog demon (daiyōkai), originally introduced in *Inuyasha* as the elder half-brother of Inuyasha. He is the son of the powerful dog demon Tōga and inherits the title of Lord of the Western Lands. Initially characterized by disdain for humans and half-demons, Sesshōmaru pursued greater power and sought his father's swords, Tessaiga and Tenseiga. Tenseiga, a healing sword capable of reviving the dead, was bequeathed to him by Tōga to teach compassion, though Sesshōmaru initially rejected this path.

After losing his left arm to Inuyasha wielding Tessaiga, Sesshōmaru gained a temporary human arm embedded with a Shikon Jewel shard from Naraku. This arm allowed him to grasp Tessaiga, yet his quest for the sword ultimately spurred personal growth. His encounters with the human orphan Rin, whom he resurrected using Tenseiga after her death, marked a turning point. Rin's unwavering loyalty and compassion gradually softened his rigid worldview, leading him to accept her companionship alongside his retainers Jaken and the two-headed dragon A-Un.

Centuries later, Sesshōmaru married Rin as an adult. They had fraternal twin daughters, Towa and Setsuna, both half-demons. Shortly after their birth, Rin was targeted by Zero, the elder sister of the beast demon Kirinmaru. Zero placed a fatal Silver-Scale Curse on Rin, linking their lives. To protect Rin, Sesshōmaru placed her in suspended animation within the Sacred Tree of Ages, separating her from their infants.

During a forest fire, the twins were separated: Towa was transported to the modern era, while Setsuna remained in the feudal era under Kohaku's guardianship. Sesshōmaru silently observed his daughters' growth, intervening only indirectly. When Setsuna lost her memories and dreams due to the Dream Butterfly (a creation linked to Zero and Kirinmaru), Sesshōmaru allowed events to unfold, trusting his daughters' resilience.

In *The Second Act*, after Kirinmaru seemingly killed Setsuna, Sesshōmaru appeared before Towa and offered her the broken Tenseiga. Towa successfully wielded its power to revive Setsuna, demonstrating Sesshōmaru's strategic guidance despite his detached demeanor. Later, he severed the Dream Butterfly to restore Setsuna's ability to sleep, mitigating the threat to Rin.

Sesshōmaru's conflict with Kirinmaru stemmed from Kirinmaru's plan to prevent the "Degenerate Age" by altering time, a scheme that endangered both eras. Sesshōmaru confronted Kirinmaru directly, sustaining severe injuries to shield his daughters. He facilitated Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha's entry into the Black Pearl to rescue Inuyasha and Kagome, imprisoned within Tōga's tomb.

Following Zero's defeat and the lifting of Rin's curse, Sesshōmaru reunited with his family. He resumed his role as Lord of the Western Lands, with Rin and their daughters joining him in his domain. His journey culminated in forging a balance between his demonic heritage and his commitment to protecting those he valued.
