TV Special
Description
Orphaned young in Shimotsuki Village after his father died fighting pirates and his mother succumbed to illness, Roronoa Zoro trained at a local dojo. There, he faced Shimotsuki Kuina, suffering approximately 2,000 defeats. They vowed one would become the world's greatest swordsman. Following Kuina's accidental death, Zoro inherited her sword Wado Ichimonji and developed the unique Three Sword Style, wielding a blade in each hand and one in his mouth. He set out to sea but became lost, surviving through bounty hunting which earned him the moniker "Pirate Hunter." He once declined an offer to join Baroque Works, resulting in a self-defense killing of their agent Mr. 7.

Zoro's path crossed Monkey D. Luffy's in Shells Town, where he faced execution after defending a girl named Rika from the marine captain's son. Luffy freed him on condition Zoro join his crew. Recognizing shared ambitions, Zoro agreed but stipulated Luffy must not hinder his goal to become the world's strongest swordsman. This began his role as the Straw Hat Pirates' combatant and Luffy's eventual right-hand man.

Zoro maintains a stern, serious demeanor characterized by emotional reserve and frequent anger. He prioritizes training and sleep over socializing and strictly adheres to bushido principles, refusing to attack opponents facing away unless crewmates are endangered, considering a back scar a swordsman's ultimate disgrace. Despite his aloof exterior, he displays fierce loyalty, exemplified when he absorbed Luffy's accumulated pain and near-fatal injuries from the Thriller Bark battle using Kuma's power, dismissing the act later with "nothing happened."

His combat prowess centers on Three Sword Style techniques, later enhanced as the King of Hell Three Sword Style incorporating Armament and Conqueror's Haki. He wields Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Enma, possessing exceptional physical resilience to fight through severe injuries. A notable weakness is his extreme lack of directional sense, causing him to get lost constantly.

In "Protect! The Last Great Performance," Zoro reluctantly participated in a theatrical performance on Randolph's ship after actors quit. During the chaotic first act, he misinterpreted a stage malfunction as a cue, prematurely rotating the set and causing a collapse. When marines led by Commander Governor attacked, framing Randolph, Zoro defended the ship alongside Sanji. He destroyed an incoming marine vessel and intercepted cannon fire, contributing to the protection of Randolph's final performance, showcasing his combat reliability.

Zoro's broader character arc involves unwavering loyalty to Luffy, enforcing strict standards for Usopp's return after abandonment. He shows growth by trusting allies more readily, such as forming an alliance with Trafalgar Law. During the timeskip, he trained under Dracule Mihawk, gaining a scar over his left eye and significantly improving his swordsmanship. In Wano Country, he embraced his samurai heritage, adopting traditional attire and local speech patterns. His bounty increased from 60,000,000 to 1,111,000,000 following the Raid on Onigashima.
