Description
Ash Ketchum travels to Alto Mare with Misty and Brock, participating in a local water race where he briefly encounters an invisible Latias. His curiosity stirs when he spots a girl resembling Bianca behaving unusually near a water pump, though he dismisses it. After witnessing the same girl pursued and attacked by thieves Annie and Oakley, Ash intervenes immediately to protect her, demonstrating his instinct to aid those in distress. This sparks a chase through city streets, with Ash guiding her to safety before she disappears abruptly.

Driven by persistent curiosity about the mysterious girl, Ash later spots her painting in a temple and pursues her across Alto Mare. She leads him through a concealed passageway into a hidden garden sanctuary, home to Latios and Latias. Upon entering, Ash faces initial hostility from Latios, who perceives him as a threat. Latias—still disguised as the girl—intervenes to protect Ash, calming her sibling. This reveals the truth: the girl Ash aided was Latias in human form, while the temple painter was the real Bianca. Lorenzo, Bianca’s grandfather and guardian of the garden, vouches for Ash’s trustworthiness.

In the sanctuary, Ash bonds with Latias and Latios, engaging in playful activities with Pikachu. He experiences Latios’s "sight-sharing" ability, which enables psychic visual connection between the siblings. Ash is shown the Soul Dew, a powerful artifact linked to Alto Mare’s guardians, and vows to keep its location and the garden secret, highlighting his growing trust and respect.

When Annie and Oakley infiltrate the garden that night, capture Latios, and steal the Soul Dew, Latias escapes and seeks Ash’s help. She arrives at his hotel room in visible distress, unable to communicate verbally even in human form. Ash instantly recognizes the urgency, rallies Misty and Brock, and follows Latias to the temple where the thieves have activated the city’s ancient defense mechanism using Latios and the Soul Dew.

Inside the temple, Ash confronts the revived fossil Pokémon Kabutops and Aerodactyl, unleashed by Oakley to capture Latias. He battles them to protect her. After Latios shares a final vision through sight-sharing, Ash witnesses Oakley’s descent into madness while controlling the defense system. When the Soul Dew shatters and triggers a catastrophic tidal wave, Ash is powerless to prevent Latios’s sacrifice to save the city.

In the aftermath, Ash prepares to depart Alto Mare. A girl resembling Bianca arrives to bid him farewell, presenting him with a sketch of him and Pikachu. She kisses him before leaving silently, a gesture Ash later recalls as linked to his bond with Latias. His role concludes with Alto Mare’s safety restored, marked by Latios’s permanent sacrifice.
