Description
Shiro Kabuto, younger brother to Koji Kabuto, appears as a supporting figure in the original Mazinger Z series. Born to Kenzo Kabuto and Tsubasa Nishikiori, he and Koji were raised by their grandfather Juzo Kabuto following their parents' presumed deaths in a Bardos Island laboratory accident. Juzo deliberately hid this background to shield the brothers from psychological harm, leaving them unaware of any immediate family beyond him.

Shiro exhibits a lively, mischievous personality, often playfully teasing figures like Boss and Inspector Ankokuji. Despite his grade-school age, he displays unexpected wisdom alongside hot-headedness and excessive enthusiasm, frequently resolving conflicts through physical confrontations—whether facing bullies or scolding classmates for perceived weakness. He remains fiercely protective of Koji, worrying intensely during battles while maintaining absolute faith in his brother and Mazinger Z. Shiro also reveals a flirtatious streak, forming instant crushes on characters such as Lorelai Heinrich and showing attraction to other women.

His relationships drive his development. Shiro shares a deep bond with Koji, acting as both supportive sibling and occasional teaser about Koji’s romantic life. Initially resentful upon learning his father Kenzo survived the Bardos incident, he eventually reconciles after understanding Kenzo’s secrecy. He befriends Tetsuya Tsurugi, Kenzo’s adopted son, and evolves from seeing Boss’s gang as nuisances to joining them in Great Mazinger. His friendship with Lorelai Heinrich ends tragically when she is revealed as a robotic component of the Rhine X1, destroyed by Koji in battle, devastating Shiro. Later, in Great Mazinger, he grows close to classmate Haruka Shiratori, eventually calling her his girlfriend.

In Mazinger Z, Shiro primarily offers comic relief, observing battles and supporting Koji. His emotional depth expands during the Lorelai Heinrich arc, witnessing her integration into a Mechanical Beast and subsequent destruction. The series concludes with Shiro panicking during a Mycenae Empire attack, foreshadowing his expanded role in Great Mazinger. There, he navigates a fractured relationship with Kenzo, matures through school experiences and friendships, and actively joins Boss’s antics. He pilots "Robot Junior" (renamed "Ichinana" in Mazinger Z: Infinity), holding his own against Warrior Beasts despite minimal training. His bond with Kenzo solidifies by the series’ end, though Kenzo dies shortly after in a Mycenae assault.

In the film Mazinger Z: Infinity, set a decade post–Great Mazinger, Shiro serves as a military mecha pilot. He aids pivotal battles against Dr. Hell’s forces, rescuing Tetsuya Tsurugi and the Great Mazinger during the climax, marking his evolution from observer to capable combatant.

Shiro’s abilities include proficient hand-to-hand combat, taught by Koji, enabling him to fend off bullies or brainwashed foes. He integrates baseball skills into piloting Robot Junior and demonstrates tactical adaptability in mecha engagements despite his youth.
