Description
Mikasa Ackerman is a central character who begins her story as a young girl living with her parents on the island of Paradis. Her life is shattered when human traffickers murder her parents in front of her. Eren Yeager rescues her, killing the attackers, and brings her to live with his family, Grisha and Carla Yeager. From that moment onward, Mikasa regards Eren and the Yeagers as her family. She is of mixed heritage, with an Ackerman father and an Asian mother, making her a descendant of the Ackerman bloodline as well as a carrier of Eastern (Hizuru) lineage.

Her personality is defined by a quiet, stoic, and reserved demeanor. Before the trauma of her parents' death, she was cheerful and outgoing, but afterward she became emotionally withdrawn and rarely displays overt emotions. She is level-headed and rarely loses her composure, even in the most dangerous situations. The only person who consistently draws out her softer side is Eren, toward whom she feels an intense sense of gratitude, loyalty, and deep affection. Her devotion to him is the primary motivator for her actions throughout the story. She also cares deeply for her other close friends, especially Armin Arlert, and demonstrates a strong sense of justice and protectiveness toward her comrades.

Mikasa joins the military after the fall of Wall Maria, alongside Eren and Armin, and eventually enlists in the Survey Corps, the elite force that fights Titans outside the walls. She graduates at the top of her class from the 104th Training Corps and is regarded as a genius soldier, easily worth a hundred ordinary fighters. Her role in the story is that of a formidable warrior and a protective presence for Eren and her allies. She participates in nearly every major battle against Titans and later against human enemies from Marley.

Her key relationships include Eren Yeager, whom she loves and is fiercely protective of, and who serves as the emotional center of her world. Armin Arlert is her childhood friend and a source of emotional support. She also shares a distant blood relation with Levi Ackerman, another highly skilled soldier, but the two do not have a close personal connection. Her relationship with Eren evolves over time, especially as Eren becomes more radical and distant, culminating in her making the painful decision to kill him in order to stop the Rumbling and save humanity.

Mikasa undergoes significant character development. She starts as a character whose entire existence revolves around protecting Eren, often prioritizing him over everything else. As the story progresses, she learns to think for herself, question orders, and expand her sense of duty beyond just Eren. She grows into a more independent individual who can make difficult choices even when they conflict with her personal feelings. Her emotional journey is marked by grief, loss, and ultimately a sense of closure as she honors Eren's memory and moves forward with her life.

Her notable abilities stem from the Ackerman bloodline, which grants her superhuman physical attributes, including extraordinary strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. She has a highly developed combat instinct, often described as knowing exactly what to do in battle. She is a master of the Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) gear, able to perform complex maneuvers with precision. She is also highly proficient with Thunder Spears and expert in swordsmanship. As an Ackerman, she is resistant to the memory-altering powers of the Founding Titan and cannot be forcibly turned into a Pure Titan. Her abilities awakened during the traumatic event of her parents' murder, giving her perfect control over her body. Despite her overwhelming combat prowess, her emotional attachment to Eren can occasionally cloud her judgment, but overall she remains one of the most formidable soldiers in the story.
