The story follows Japanese high school student Anna Sakurakoji, who moves to Taiwan after her father is transferred for work. Her mother, Sakurakoji丽华 (maiden name He Lihua), is originally from Taiwan, making the move a return to her mother's homeland. Upon arriving, Anna struggles with the language barrier as she does not understand Chinese, leaving her unable to communicate with her classmates and feeling isolated.

Her situation changes when she meets her deskmate, Nan Meiling, a Taiwanese girl who loves manga and anime and is able to speak Japanese. Meiling helps Anna navigate her new environment, acting as a translator and guide. The two quickly become friends, and Meiling takes Anna on weekend trips to introduce her to Taiwanese culture, customs, and especially the local cuisine, including foods like sweet potato starch noodles.

Through Meilings translations and warm encouragement, Anna begins to connect with her other classmates as well. She experiences the friendliness and hospitality of the people around her, which helps her overcome her initial loneliness. As she explores the landscape, food, and daily habits of her new home, Anna grows to appreciate and eventually love her mother's homeland. The narrative focuses on their daily life, humorous situations arising from cultural differences, and the heartwarming cross-cultural friendship that develops between the two girls, with their relationship containing elements of yuri.
