This is the story of those elite operatives: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta. Known collectively as the Seven Shadows, they are the original and most powerful members of Shadow Garden, each having been cured of the demonic possession that once afflicted them. They take Cid’s every absurd fabrication and delusional act as profound truth, working tirelessly to build the organization, manage its vast intelligence network, and battle the very real Cult of Diablos that Cid only pretended existed.

The setting spans the same dark fantasy world as the original series, moving from the hidden headquarters of Shadow Garden to the various kingdoms and territories where the cult operates. The core conflict is seen through the eyes of these seven prodigies as they interpret their master Shadow’s (Cid’s) cryptic nonsense as strategic commands. While Cid is merely enjoying his chunibyo fantasies, believing he is spinning a fictional story, the Seven Shadows decipher real conspiracies, eliminate genuine threats, and commit horrific acts of violence in his name, all while trying to understand and emulate his supposedly brilliant and eccentric personality.

The narrative unfolds not as a singular plot but as an anthology focusing on each member. The serialization, known as Shichikage Retsuden (Seven Shadows Chronicles), dedicates specific arcs to exploring their individual backgrounds, skills, and relationships. One arc might focus on Alpha, the calm and perfect leader, struggling with the burden of command and her unwavering devotion to Shadow. Another follows Gamma, the clumsy but brilliant strategist and economic mastermind, as she turns Shadow Garden into a financial powerhouse through her failed tinkering. Delta’s arc is pure brutal action, highlighting her feral loyalty and instinct for destruction.
