In the anarchic comedy manga Bakushō Senshi! SD Gundam, the super-deformed inhabitants of the Gundam universe are not locked in grim space warfare but instead bumble through a chaotic series of slapstick gags, pop-culture parodies, and absurd adventures. The story initially centers on Mineba, an aspiring idol singer whose self-centered whims drive the conflict. She constantly manipulates Haman, the leader of Neo Zeon, and Z Gundam into staging elaborate stunts or fights against the AEUG, only for these schemes to routinely collapse into mutual frustration. In a typical early resolution, all sides abandon their hostilities to throw Mineba a birthday party.

The narrative soon shifts into the Gundam Quest story arc, in which Mineba and her companions embark on a quest to defeat an invading force threatening the kingdom of Gundam. This arc marks the rise of Kamille, nicknamed Putsun Kamille for his short temper and mental fragility, who gradually becomes the de facto lead character. His volatile personality drives much of the comedy, often parodying his canonical breakdown from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.

Subsequent arcs include the Ahho no Arashi tournament, where Kamille enters a bizarre competition and emerges victorious, and the Gundam Quest Part 2 series, which resurrects earlier quest themes. Later chapters abandon serialized storytelling in favor of short parody sketches starring Z Gundam, lampooning classic works from Japanese and world literature. The cast consists almost entirely of SD versions of characters and mecha from Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, with a notably heavy emphasis on the ZZ-era cast. Despite being the protagonist of ZZ, Judau appears only rarely. The tone throughout is relentlessly irreverent, leaning into self-aware humor, fourth-wall breaks, and rapid-fire visual gags.
