Elma is a fifteen-year-old girl who has spent her entire life inside Valtzer Prison, a notorious dungeon in the Ruden Kingdom that was once called “this world’s hell.” The prison was taken over by six legendary criminals, and it was there that Elma was born to one of the female prisoners, Heidi Marie. Raised collectively by the six great sinners, she received an extraordinary education in everything from culinary arts and combat to medicine, strategy, language, and social manipulation. When the old king dies, a general amnesty is declared, and Elma is released into the outside world. Her mother gives her a single directive: learn what it means to be a “normal” girl.

Elma becomes a palace maid under the protection of second prince Lucas von Rudendorf and head maid Gerd. She tries her best to act ordinary, but her abilities are far beyond what anyone in the royal court considers normal. She completes the work of four maids in a single morning, brews tea so exquisite it seems blessed by heaven, slices a giant tuna in one clean stroke, and performs complex surgery when healing magic fails. Each feat leaves her sincerely puzzled, asking whether people outside prison can’t do these things. Her actions repeatedly shake the palace, drawing admiration, jealousy, and political intrigue.

Throughout the story, Elma remains determined to understand “normal,” even as her extraordinary upbringing makes that goal increasingly difficult.
