Description
At the South Izu town of Iketeru-cho, in the old Soseiji Temple, a stray cat taken in decades ago has lived past thirty years and transformed into a bakeneko, a ghost cat. This creature, named Anzu-chan, has a deceptively cute appearance but the soul of a middle‑aged man, lazy and capricious yet occasionally helpful. He spends his days doing odd jobs around the temple, giving massages, patrolling the river, and drifting through the town’s small events. In the sequel story, Anzu-chan’s quiet routine is shattered when he wins 300 million yen in the lottery. Deciding to use the windfall to make a movie, he throws the peaceful town into turmoil, drawing in villagers, local spirits, and all manner of chaotic events. The narrative follows Anzu-chan’s often absurd attempts at filmmaking and the uproar that follows, while still maintaining the original manga’s offbeat, episodic humor and gentle observation of rural life. The main characters include Anzu-chan, now thirty‑five years old and more stubborn than ever; the temple’s head priest, who acts as his adoptive owner; and the various eccentric townspeople and forest spirits who become entangled in the film project. The story arc is driven by Anzu-chan’s single‑minded pursuit of his cinematic ambition, turning the normally sleepy Iketeru‑cho into a stage for comedy and mild supernatural mischief.
