Kobayashi, a pragmatic office worker living alone in a small apartment, wakes up one morning to find a massive dragon transformed into a human girl in a maid outfit standing outside her door. The dragon, Tohru, explains that the night before, a drunken Kobayashi stumbled into the mountains, pulled a holy sword from Tohru’s back, and offered her a place to stay. Tohru has fallen in love with her savior and insists on becoming her live-in maid. Reluctantly, Kobayashi agrees, and their unlikely household is born.

The official anthology expands this world through a collection of short comics and four-panel strips drawn by a rotating cast of guest artists, all under the supervision of series creator Coolkyoushinja. Each volume brings together dozens of stand-alone stories that explore the daily lives of Kobayashi, Tohru, and the ever‑growing circle of dragons and mythical beings who gravitate toward them.

The setting remains the modern Japanese town of Oborozuka, a suburban area modeled after Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture. Kobayashi’s apartment becomes a hub of chaotic domesticity, where dragon magic clashes with mundane chores. Tohru’s maid service is enthusiastic but wildly unorthodox, often leaving Kobayashi exasperated. Soon after Tohru’s arrival, the young dragon Kanna Kamui shows up, having been exiled from the dragon world for a prank. Kobayashi takes her in as a guardian, and Kanna enrolls in elementary school, where she befriends the excitable Riko Saikawa. Other dragons follow: Elma, a gluttonous and competitive water dragon who works alongside Kobayashi at the same company; Lucoa, a former goddess with a relaxed, teasing demeanor who becomes the familiar of the young mage Shota Magatsuchi; and Fafnir, a cynical hoarder of treasure who moves in with Kobayashi’s coworker Makoto Takiya and spends his days as a recluse obsessed with video games.

The anthology has no single overarching plot. Instead, its narrative arcs are micro‑comedies built around daily situations: cooking disasters, school festivals, trips to the beach, misunderstandings about human customs, and the dragons’ attempts to fit in—or their deliberate refusal to do so. Humor ranges from gentle slice‑of‑life warmth to mischievous risqué gags. The tone stays light and affectionate, emphasizing found family, cultural clash, and the universal absurdity of living with someone whose idea of “helping” involves conjuring fire, freezing time, or turning the apartment into a dragon hoard.

Multiple volumes have been released under the title Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon Official Anthology, with later entries labeled All Stars! The anthology series offers an episodic, multi‑artist look at the same world, providing both expansions of familiar character dynamics and entirely new comedic scenarios.
