Angelo Nicotra was an influential Italian voice actor and dubbing director, best known for providing the Italian voices for numerous animated and live-action characters over a career that spanned seven decades. Born in Rome on April 10, 1948, he began his career as a child actor in 1952 before becoming one of Italy's most prolific and recognizable voices in dubbing. He passed away on March 8, 2024, in Rome at the age of 75.

Nicotra's extensive voice work in anime includes a wide variety of significant roles. In the original video animation Apocalypse Zero, he voiced the character Oboro Hagakure. He took on the role of Genzo Seno in the 2014 historical anime film Giovanni's Island. His film work also includes providing the voice of Ivanov in the acclaimed short film Magnetic Rose, which is part of the Memories anthology. In the mecha genre, he was the voice of Benkei Kuruma in the popular original video animation series Getter Robo: Armageddon.

Beyond these specific roles, Nicotra lent his voice to many other prominent anime series and films. He was the voice of Makarov Dreyar in Fairy Tail, Vincent in Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Gin in Tokyo Godfathers, and Quent Yaiden in Wolf's Rain. His other credits include roles in Ashita no Joe, B't X, Boogiepop Phantom, Initial D, RahXephon, and Trigun. He also voiced Lord Yupa in a 2015 redub of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Gill in the Italian versions of Finding Nemo and its sequel Finding Dory, and Ratchet in the live-action Transformers film series.

In addition to his anime work, Nicotra was the official Italian voice of Morgan Freeman from 2011 until his death, and also regularly dubbed actors such as Danny Glover and Forest Whitaker. He was equally famous for his animated roles outside of anime, including Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise, Gonzo from The Muppets, and Dr. Zoidberg in Futurama.

Beyond acting, Nicotra also contributed to the industry as a dubbing director. He served in this capacity for the Italian versions of several anime, including GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Metropolis, and Orphen. His long-standing and diverse career made him a cornerstone of the Italian dubbing industry, leaving behind a vast legacy of work known to audiences across generations.
