Myeong-Jun Jeong
Description
Myeong-Jun Jeong is a South Korean voice actor and actor, born on August 27, 1970. He began his career in April 2000 as part of the fourth cohort of voice actors for Tooniverse, a South Korean cable channel, and has been active as a freelancer since 2003. Prior to 2018, he worked under his real name but briefly used the stage name Jung Woo-seok for acting roles, although he continues to use his birth name for dubbing work.
Jeong is known for a voice described as intelligent, soft, and sharp, which allows him to portray a wide range of characters, including gentlemanly figures, villains, and even feminine or okama roles. His first leading role in animation was as Seiji Sawamura in the series Midori's Days.
He has built an extensive filmography in animation, lending his voice to many iconic characters in Korean-dubbed versions of popular Japanese anime. Some of his most recognized roles include Renji Abarai in Bleach, Shikamaru Nara in Naruto, Teru Mikami in Death Note, and Dragon in Metal Fight Beyblade. He also voiced the character Pin Joker in the One Piece special One Piece: Nejimaki Shima no Bōken. Other notable anime roles include Aidou Hanabusa in Vampire Knight, Archer in Fate/stay night, and Kirio Karasuma in Little Goddess Karin. In addition to animation, his voice work extends to tokusatsu, where he voiced Yuji Kiba in the Korean dub of Kamen Rider 555. He is also well-known in South Korea for his role as Shion in the children's mystery series Mysterious Apartment.
Beyond voice acting, Jeong is also active as a live-action actor, appearing in numerous South Korean television dramas and films. He often portrays intelligent and elite characters such as prosecutors and lawyers, which contrasts with some of his more villainous voice roles in animation. His drama appearances include roles in Giant, City Hunter, My Love from the Star, Defendant, and Misty. He also played a young Kim Young-sam in the drama Yain era.
Jeong has expressed a strong personal desire for his craft and has noted his fondness for playing sharp, elite characters in live-action roles. One of his lines as Dragon in Metal Fight Beyblade, "Your father is trash," became a popular internet meme in South Korea.
