Mike MacRae
Description
Mike MacRae is an American actor and voice artist recognized for his extensive work in English-language dubs of anime, primarily during the early 2000s. Born on July 29, 1977, in St. Louis, Missouri, he later moved to Houston, Texas, to attend Rice University, from which he graduated in 1999. His career began in stand-up comedy, with his first television appearance on Comedy Central's Premium Blend in 2001, a background that informs his vocal performances.
MacRae's voice acting career is closely associated with ADV Films, a former Houston-based production company responsible for dubbing numerous anime series for the North American market. During this period, he lent his voice to a wide array of characters. In the surreal comedy The Super Milk-chan Show, he voiced The President, the stout, bald authority figure who assigns missions to the show's titular character. His role as The President is often cited as a memorable part of the show's English adaptation. In a different vein, he portrayed Takeda in the drama series Diamond Daydreams, a romance anime centered on interconnected stories in Hokkaido.
His anime filmography is extensive and demonstrates significant range. He voiced the villainous Gauron in the mecha action series Full Metal Panic! and its sequels. He took on the role of the complex Toshizo Hijikata in Peacemaker Kurogane and played Leon Oswald in Kaleido Star: New Wings. He also voiced Phoenix Ikki in ADV Films' uncut dub of the classic series Saint Seiya and was Dokugakuji in the latter half of the Saiyuki television series. Other notable credits include roles in Excel Saga, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Cromartie High School, and Pani Poni Dash!.
Beyond anime, MacRae has achieved recognition as the official voice of the Pixar character Buzz Lightyear in numerous video games, stepping into the role when Tim Allen is unavailable. His video game credits include Toy Story 3: The Video Game, the Disney Infinity series, and Kingdom Hearts III. His voice work extends to animated series such as Viva Piñata and Mike Tyson Mysteries, as well as the political satire Our Cartoon President, for which he impersonated figures like Mitt Romney.
A working comedian and impressionist, MacRae has appeared on programs such as The Late Show with David Letterman and Frank TV. He is also a regular contributor to political commentary programs, providing voice impressions for The Jimmy Dore Show.
