Description
In a world where legendary songs from the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras are revered as Divine Comedy, the girls who sing these powerful covers are known as Utahime. The ultimate goal for any Utahime is to compete in a high-stakes musical battle royale to claim the title of Utahime Queen, a competition judged purely on vocal and performance skill.
The story follows Yumesaki Ibuki, a young woman who has dedicated her life to the stage. Having given up on her dream of joining an opera company, she is on the verge of abandoning her musical aspirations entirely when she is discovered by the Utahime Dream project. This opportunity opens the door to a new and unknown world where she must find her voice once more.
She enters a field of formidable rivals, each with their own unique style and background. The central figures include Sakuragi Maika, the absolute queen of anime songs who is attempting to make history by winning the Utahime Dream Grand Prix for the sixth consecutive time. Other competitors bring diverse musical flavors to the stage: Mashiro Kiyomi, who has a deep love for Showa-era pop music; Mizuki Hikari, a revue specialist born in a small theater in Asakusa; Takagi Rin, who brings a unique flair from her childhood in Hawaii; and Hagiwara Himawari, an active female professional wrestler who balances athleticism with performance. The lineup is rounded out by HiREN, a mysterious singer of heartbreak songs, and SAKURAKO, a runaway daughter of a wealthy family now working as a street musician.
As the series progresses toward the anticipated fall 2025 premiere, the narrative explores the tension between traditional showbiz and modern street performance, as well as the personal sacrifices each girl makes for the chance to be crowned queen. Through their journeys, the anime showcases a vast library of iconic Japanese hits, serving as both a competitive sports narrative and a musical celebration of the country's pop culture history.
