Description
In a small town, a young man named Giuseppe has earned the local nickname of Toritsukare Otoko, or the Obsessed Man, for his tendency to plunge headlong into intense but short-lived fixations. Whether it is opera, the triple jump, collecting sunglasses, clam-digging, or embroidery, he pays no heed to anything else until his interest inevitably shifts to the next thing. His only constant companion is a clever and sharp-tongued mouse named Cielo, who often bears the brunt of Giuseppe's single-minded enthusiasm.
One day, while wandering the town, Giuseppe’s latest obsession becomes something far more profound: love at first sight. He sees Pechka, a quiet balloon seller whose smile does not reach her eyes, which carry a hidden sorrow. Giuseppe becomes immediately and utterly absorbed in the idea of warming her heart. However, Pechka keeps her distance, frozen by a sadness rooted in circumstances that include a mother hospitalized for an illness.
Refusing to give up, Giuseppe decides to use his unusual collection of past obsessions as a toolkit to reach her. With Cielo’s reluctant help, he attempts to apply every strange skill he has ever learned to secretly solve the problems weighing on her heart and chip away at her loneliness. His quest brings him into contact with other colorful townspeople, including the rival gang bosses Twist and Salsa, who love to dance, and a gentle ice hockey teacher named Tatan, who watches over the children.
This narrative unfolds as a musical, with Giuseppe and Pechka expressing their emotions through song. The duet Fanfare ~Koi ni Ukarete~ captures the giddiness of Giuseppe’s newfound love, while the theme song Fanfare, performed by the band Awesome City Club, serves as an anthem for his pure and clumsy efforts.
