Description
In a modern Japan where humans and beastmen coexist, a catgirl named Yani lives on the brink of total personal collapse. Her small apartment reeks of stale smoke, overflowing ashtrays, and general neglect. Yani has a severe, all-consuming addiction to cigarettes, spending her last coins on nicotine while her rent goes unpaid and her employment record remains a disaster. Every attempt she makes to quit crumbles almost instantly under the weight of her cravings, leading to increasingly desperate measures, such as scavenging cigarette butts from the street or using her own urine to extinguish fires caused by her carelessness.

The series follows Yani’s daily struggles as a high-functioning mess, trapped in a repetitive cycle of addiction, procrastination, and rationalization. Her long-suffering younger sister and a small circle of acquaintances frequently step in to help, though their efforts are often met with Yani’s self-destructive tendencies and chaotic behavior. The supporting cast includes Yaku Neko, a junior who inexplicably looks up to Yani; Hame Neko, Yaku’s classmate; Kansai Neko, a student with a heavy Kansai dialect; Al Neko, an alcoholic animal woman; Tatsuro Ochinpo, the only human tenant in the building who works as a manga artist; and a perpetually exasperated landlord.

While the narrative primarily functions as a slice-of-life and gag comedy that finds humor in Yani’s filth, laziness, and grotesque habits, it also contains undercurrents of darker, more poignant themes. Beneath the surface-level jokes about flatulence, vomit, and nicotine withdrawal lies a raw portrayal of dependency and the difficulty of breaking self-destructive loops. The story occasionally touches on the broader social dynamics between humans and beastmen, including the prejudices and stereotypes Yani faces, though these elements often take a backseat to the immediate, pressing disaster of her next cigarette fix. Key narrative arcs revolve around her failed job interviews, her attempts to borrow money for tobacco, and the various ways her addiction alienates her from those who try to care for her, painting a portrait of a character who is as frustrating as she is compelling.
