The time is the late Sengoku period, a fantasy reimagining of 1500s Japan. The nation has been fractured by endless war into many independent domains. At the center of this chaos lies the land of Ashina, a territory built on sacred earth and ancient mystery. Two decades before the story begins, the legendary Sword Saint Isshin Ashina seized the region in a bloody coup. Now, a new threat emerges not from outside, but from within the Interior Ministry, a powerful faction seeking to absorb all of Japan under a single rule.

Desperate to protect his ancestral homeland from this encroaching force, Isshin’s grandson, the headstrong and fierce warrior Genichiro, turns to forbidden and unnatural powers. The key to his desperate plan is a kidnapped young boy known as the Divine Heir, Kuro. This boy possesses the Dragon Heritage, a sacred bloodline that grants the gift of immortality. Kuro’s only protector is a solemn, battle-scarred shinobi known as the Wolf.

The narrative arc begins in tragedy. When Genichiro attacks to seize the Divine Heir, the Wolf is defeated, losing his left arm in the brutal encounter and leaving Kuro captured. Left for dead, the Wolf is rescued and given a new purpose. He receives a prosthetic shinobi arm fitted with a variety of tools and weapons, re-forging himself into a relentless one-armed warrior. Reborn as Sekiro, he embarks on a solitary and brutal quest for redemption, swearing an unbreakable oath of loyalty to rescue his young lord.
