Description
Martin Bohm is a widower and former journalist struggling to raise his eleven-year-old son, Jake, who is mute and has been diagnosed as severely autistic. Still reeling from the death of his wife during the September 11 attacks, Martin has exhausted nearly every resource trying to connect with a child who shows little emotion, refuses to be touched, and communicates only through an obsessive fascination with discarded cell phones and an endless scribbling of numbers. When a concerned social worker, Clea Hopkins, begins evaluating the Bohms living situation with the intent to place Jake in state care, Martin makes a desperate final attempt to understand his son.

The breakthrough comes through Arthur Teller, a retired professor who runs a small institute studying children with extraordinary abilities. Teller reveals that Jake is not simply autistic; he perceives the world through a gift for recognizing intricate patterns and numerical sequences that connect seemingly random events across the globe. The numbers Jake obsessively writes are not meaningless tics but a form of communication revealing how the lives of strangers on different continents are intertwined through an invisible, precise, and interconnected universe. With Teller's guidance, Martin realizes his role is no longer just to care for Jake but to become his interpreter, taking the numerical clues and racing across New York City to intervene in the lives of those the numbers indicate, often preventing disasters or reuniting lost souls.

Throughout the first season, Martin is joined by Clea Hopkins, who transitions from a skeptical social worker to a crucial ally as she witnesses the uncanny accuracy of Jakes predictions. Each episode weaves together several disparate storylines featuring people from different cultures and time zones who initially appear unrelated, such as a gifted singer in a karaoke bar, a struggling Iraqi teenager, or a British businessman chasing a lost phone. Through Martins actions based on Jakes numbers, these lives intersect in profound ways, demonstrating that small acts can have massive ripple effects across the globe.

As the series moves into its second season, the scope widens significantly. Martin and Jake, now on the run to protect his abilities from exploitation, encounter others like him. They meet Lucy Robbins, a mother searching for her own gifted daughter, Amelia, who possesses powers similar to Jakes. Together, they face a formidable threat in Calvin Norburg, a man connected to a powerful and shadowy corporation known as Aster Corps, which seeks to weaponize the childrens unique perception of future events. The narrative shifts from a father simply trying to save strangers to a larger battle against an organization determined to control destiny itself, forcing Martin to navigate a dangerous conspiracy while protecting a small group of extraordinary children who are beginning to understand the true weight of their gift.
