Description
In the anime Dragon Ball GT, Mai appears as an elderly woman, a marked contrast to her younger self from the original series. She has aged alongside her longtime partners, Emperor Pilaf and Shu. In this later period of her life, her appearance has changed significantly; she has white or turquoise hair and is often seen wearing a navy blue bandana on her head. Her usual attire consists of a red trench coat and pink slacks, a departure from the more militaristic uniform she wore in her youth.

As a character, Mai remains fiercely loyal to Emperor Pilaf, continuing to serve as his right hand and a core member of the Pilaf Gang well into her old age. Her personality retains its core traits from earlier in the franchise: she is intelligent, calculating, and often the most competent member of the trio, despite their collective plans consistently ending in failure. Her demeanor is typically serious, acting as a foil to the more comical and bumbling nature of her partner, Shu. Within the group dynamic, she sometimes takes on a role similar to a mother figure, showing a deeper care for Emperor Pilaf beyond just following his orders. Even as a villain, she has a conservative side, particularly regarding romance, and her sense of humor can be dry or even slightly perverted, though she can also be shy about matters of sexuality.

In the story of Dragon Ball GT, the Pilaf Gang's primary motivation remains unchanged after all these years: to gather the Dragon Balls and wish for world domination. At the beginning of the series, they are shown on Kami's Lookout, having successfully collected the Black Star Dragon Balls. Mai expresses a desire to hurry with their plan, as she feels something always goes wrong when they are close to their goal. When they summon the dragon, Goku appears, and Pilaf, recognizing him, foolishly wishes that Goku were a child again so he could defeat him. The dragon grants this wish, turning Goku back into a boy, but this does not make him any weaker, and the Pilaf Gang is promptly defeated. This event inadvertently sets the entire plot of Dragon Ball GT into motion.

Mai’s key relationships are exclusively with her partners, Emperor Pilaf and Shu. For decades, she has worked alongside them as a spy, thief, and treasure hunter, and their bond remains intact despite their advanced age and continued failures. Her role in the story is almost entirely contained within the first episode, where she participates in the ill-fated attempt to use the Black Star Dragon Balls. Her development across the franchise is evident in her aged appearance in GT, which shows the passage of time and her enduring loyalty, having never abandoned Pilaf's quest. Later in the series, she and the rest of the Pilaf Gang make a minor cameo appearance when Super Saiyan 4 Goku teleports them to New Planet Plant to save them from Earth's destruction.

Regarding notable abilities, Mai does not possess supernatural powers or martial arts skills like the Saiyan characters. Instead, she relies on weaponry and technology. She is known to use firearms such as guns and rocket launchers. Her primary method of engaging in combat is by piloting a large mech suit, referred to as a Pilaf Machine. This machine is equipped with various weapons, including missile launchers and gatling guns, which she uses against Goku.
