Kogoro Mouri, a private detective entangled in international intrigue and criminal investigations, navigates a high-profile case during a luxury hotel festival attended by Conan Edogawa and his daughter Ran. When Ran’s striking resemblance to Princess Mira of Vespania forces her into a perilous impersonation, Kogoro pursues the conspiracy to Vespania, partnering with Inspector Megure and Interpol’s Koichi Zenigata. Officially embedded in Zenigata’s task force targeting Lupin III, he balances authority with covert reliance on Conan’s anonymous deductions.
Lupin III later infiltrates the investigation by mimicking Kogoro’s identity, a ruse undone when Zenigata detects subtle behavioral slips—including Lupin’s use of a nickname exclusive to their rivalry. Kogoro’s initial disbelief in Lupin’s existence, dismissing the thief as a manga fabrication, contrasts his analytical scrutiny of a staged royal hunting accident that claimed Queen Sakura and Prince Gill. Despite his efforts, Conan’s discreet interventions frequently eclipse his contributions.
His protective instincts surface when Ran faces danger, driving his involvement even as his role pivots to enabling Conan’s access to crime scenes or diplomatic networks. A subsequent hotel investigation, where an Italian pop star receives death threats, sees Kogoro present but peripheral, underscoring his recurring position as both guardian and narrative conduit. Though subtly guided by Conan, Kogoro maintains formal investigative authority, anchoring their partnership in a dynamic of unspoken collaboration.
