Description
Sanji, also known as Black Leg Sanji, is the suave and skilled chef of the Straw Hat Pirates. Born as Vinsmoke Sanji, he is the third son of the royal Vinsmoke family, the rulers of the Germa Kingdom. His father, Judge, a scientist and military leader, genetically modified his children to be emotionless super-soldiers. However, Sanji was deemed a failure because he retained his human emotions and empathy, leading to horrific abuse from his family and his eventual escape as a child.

After surviving a shipwreck, Sanji was rescued by Zeff, a legendary pirate known as Red Foot. To save the starving boy, Zeff sacrificed his own leg, an act that profoundly shaped Sanji's values. Sanji trained under Zeff at the floating restaurant Baratie, where he learned to cook and developed his signature fighting style, which relies solely on powerful kicks to keep his hands unharmed for his culinary work. His driving dream is to find the All Blue, a legendary sea where the waters of all four oceans meet, teeming with fish from across the world, which would be a paradise for any chef.

Sanji's personality is a complex blend of chivalry, passion, and practicality. He is generally calm, cool, and collected, often seen with a cigarette in hand, speaking in a composed manner even in dire situations. His most defining trait is his unwavering devotion to women. He operates under a strict code of chivalry, refusing to ever harm a woman, no matter the enemy, and will often go to extreme lengths to protect them. This is contrasted by his comedic and often exaggerated amorous nature, where he constantly flirts with any beautiful woman, earning him the nickname "ero-cook" from his rival, Roronoa Zoro. Despite this, his kindness is not limited to women; having suffered starvation himself, he will never deny a meal to a hungry person, regardless of whether they are friend or foe.

In the Straw Hat crew, Sanji serves as the primary chef, a role he takes with immense pride and seriousness. He looks after the crew's health and is a key fighter, often taking on one of the strongest enemies alongside Luffy and Zoro. His relationships with his crewmates are a core part of his character. He holds a deep, unshakable loyalty to his captain, Monkey D. Luffy, firmly believing he will become the Pirate King. His rivalry with Zoro is legendary; the two are constantly bickering and fighting, yet they possess a deep mutual respect and have proven to be an unstoppable team when they set aside their differences. He is especially protective of the crew's female members, Nami and Nico Robin, often going to great lengths for their sake.

Sanji undergoes significant character development, particularly during the Whole Cake Island arc. Forced to confront his traumatic past, he returns to his family to protect his crewmates from his father's machinations. He endures intense emotional turmoil, including an arranged marriage, but ultimately accepts his origins and reaffirms his place with the Straw Hats. In the subsequent Wano Country arc, he fully embraces his modified lineage, awakening latent superhuman abilities that grant him enhanced durability and speed, though he chooses to destroy the raid suit that activated them as a final rejection of his family's legacy.

As a fighter, Sanji is incredibly formidable, using only his legs in combat. His signature techniques include Diable Jambe, where he heats his leg to a blazing temperature through friction, and its more powerful evolution, Ifrit Jambe, which uses blue-white flames. Through intense training, he also mastered two forms of Haki: Observation Haki, which allows him to sense others' presence and intent, and Armament Haki, which lets him create invisible armor to harden his body and attacks. His physical abilities are superhuman, allowing him to perform feats like Sky Walk, effectively running through the air, and Blue Walk, a high-speed underwater kicking technique. With a bounty of 1,032,000,000 berries, Sanji is recognized as one of the most dangerous and capable members of the Straw Hat Pirates.
