Description
After successfully establishing the Mizusawa High School karuta club and achieving a thrilling victory against the powerful Hokuo team in the Tokyo regional qualifiers, Chihaya Ayase’s momentum is halted by troubling news from the past. Her childhood friend and the one who first introduced her to competitive karuta, Arata Wataya, has declared he will no longer play the sport that once defined their shared dream. Troubled and determined to understand, Chihaya and her teammate Taichi Mashima travel to Fukui to visit him.

The second film in the live-action adaptation finds the three former friends at a crossroads. In Fukui, they discover Arata struggling with the recent death of his grandfather, a master karuta player and his greatest inspiration. Bereft of his guiding light, Arata has lost his passion and connection to the game, leaving Chihaya and Taichi to confront the painful distance that has grown between them. As the Mizusawa team returns to Tokyo to prepare for the national championships, their individual journeys converge with the arrival of a formidable obstacle: the unbeatable Queen of karuta, Shinobu Wakamiya.

Shinobu is a solitary genius who views karuta as a purely individual pursuit, a philosophy that directly clashes with the team-oriented spirit Chihaya has worked so hard to build. Her icy demeanor and unparalleled skill challenge not only Chihaya's ambition to become the best, but the very way the entire Mizusawa club sees the game they love. As Chihaya chases the dream of facing the Queen, she must also balance her personal goals with her responsibilities to her teammates—Kanade, who loves the classical poetry of the cards; the analytical Tsutomu; and the powerful Yusei. The narrative deepens the love triangle and rivalry between Chihaya, Taichi, and the absent Arata, while introducing a new rival in Shinobu, whose loneliness at the top mirrors Arata’s isolation, creating a powerful connection between the two prodigies. The film builds toward a confrontation where each character must decide what karuta truly means to them and whether the bonds of a team can coexist with the drive for individual glory.
