Gianni Giuliano

Description
Gianni Giuliano is an established Italian voice actor and dubbing director with a career spanning several decades, known for his deep and versatile voice. Born in Savona, Italy, in 1948, he moved to Rome to study at the prestigious Accademia d'Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico, which laid the foundation for his work in theatre, television, and dubbing. His career in dubbing began early, guided by the influential dubbing director Fede Arnaud, allowing him to work on significant projects with little initial struggle.

Giuliano is particularly renowned for his extensive work in animation, having lent his voice to a wide array of iconic and memorable characters. He is the primary Italian voice for the legendary space pirate Captain Harlock, a role he originated for the first television series in the 1980s and which has remained closely associated with him throughout his career. His repertoire in anime and animated productions includes a diverse range of characters: the elderly sage Tohlim in The Deer King, the god Ryūjin in Child of Kamiari Month, the powerful Deus Prometh in the film Promare, the villainous Carmine in Super Crooks, the mysterious Abraham in Yasuke, and Professor Meyzel in Spriggan. He has also voiced Professor Yumi in MazinKaiser, Alfred Pennyworth in the animated film Batman Ninja, and has taken on the role of the iconic space pirate again in Captain Harlock: Mystery of the Arcadia.

Beyond the specific world of anime, Giuliano's voice is widely recognized in Italy for many other beloved animated characters. He is the historic voice of the character Telespalla Bob (Sideshow Bob) from The Simpsons, a role he has played since the show's fifth season. He has also voiced Popeye, Asterix, and characters in major productions like Cars 2, Monsters University, and the LEGO Ninjago film. His work extends to live-action dubbing, where he is best known as the primary Italian voice for actor Bill Nighy, as well as dubbing actors such as Jeremy Irons, James Woods, and Michael Douglas.

In recognition of his talent, Giuliano won the Voci nell'ombra award for Best Male Dubbing in 2015 for his performance as Niels Arestrup in the film Diplomacy. His approach to dubbing is characterized by a deep respect for the craft, viewing it as an extension of acting where the goal is to capture the actor's performance, including the subtle expressions in their eyes, to deliver an authentic interpretation. With a career that spans from classic theatre to contemporary animation, Gianni Giuliano remains a highly respected and active figure in the Italian entertainment industry.
