Kentarō Tone
Description
Kentaro Tone is a Japanese voice actor born on May 29, 1982, in Hiroshima Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency I'm Enterprise. Tone's path to voice acting was shaped by a unique educational background. He spent part of his childhood in the United States due to his father's work. After returning to Japan, he was active in his high school's broadcasting club before enrolling at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, where he majored in Tagalog, the primary language of the Philippines. His university career lasted seven years, during which he also joined a drama club and, in his second year, began training at the Japan Narration Acting Institute. He joined I'm Enterprise during his second year at the institute and made his professional debut in 2006, providing voice work for digital content at a museum exhibition.
Tone's career is marked by a wide range of supporting and recurring roles across numerous anime television series. He is known for voicing Oshtor in the Utawarerumono franchise, a role he originated in the 2015 anime Utawarerumono: The False Faces and reprised in Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth. Following the passing of voice actor Keiji Fujiwara in 2020, Tone succeeded him as the voice of the character Haku in the spin-off game Utawarerumono: Zan 2, and he voiced both Oshtor and Haku in the 2022 anime adaptation.
His other prominent anime roles include the Club President in This Art Club Has a Problem!, Zion Kunikida in Ingress, and Jürgen Borisovich Volk in The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup and its sequel. His filmography also features roles such as Sandeo in Ranking of Kings, Dir in Banished From The Heroes' Party, Booze Man in To Your Eternity, Dr. Magnus in Gaist Crusher, Uriyanedi in Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion, and Daimon-sensei in Seitokai Yakuindomo 2. He also voiced characters in long-running and popular series like Naruto, Kuroko's Basketball, and One-Punch Man. In addition to his television work, Tone has contributed to animated films, such as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, and video games like Fire Emblem Heroes and the Utawarerumono series.
Throughout his career, Tone has frequently collaborated on projects within the same franchises, demonstrating his versatility in portraying both authoritative figures and comedic characters. His linguistic abilities, including proficiency in English and his university studies in Tagalog, have also led to him being cast in foreigner roles.
