Eken Mine was a Japanese actor and voice actor, born on February 15, 1935, in Nagasaki Prefecture. He was a graduate of Koyasan University. In 1961, Mine affiliated himself with the theatre company Theatre Echo, where he spent the majority of his career. He was married to fellow voice actress Hiroko Maruyama. Mine passed away on February 6, 2002, at the age of 66 due to heart failure.

Mine's voice acting career was extensive and varied, spanning from the early 1960s until his death in 2002. He was known for his versatility, frequently taking on roles as older men, villains, and fatherly figures in anime. Beyond anime, he was also heavily involved in dubbing Western films and television series into Japanese. His work in tokusatsu, particularly in the long-running Kamen Rider franchise, was also a significant part of his career.

He built a substantial filmography across television, film, and original video animations (OVAs). Some of his notable anime roles, which include the ones provided, are President Tako in Otoko wa Tsurai yo - Torajirō Wasurenagusa, Ryoan in the Yotoden series, Ligern in Great Mazinger, Karimu in Ryu, the Cave Boy, Dr. John in The Demonic Beast Front, Professor Amamoto in both Ariel and Ariel Deluxe, Grandfather Trent in Sasurai no Shōjo Nell, and Elder Gluke in Gude Crest - The Emblem of Gude. He also voiced the Melon Alien A in the Osomatsu-kun film Suika no Hoshi kara Konnichiwa Zansu!. Among his most enduring roles was Nanbutsu Isasaka in the long-running anime Sazae-san, a part he played from 1969 until his death. He also had a role as an extra (Underling) in the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Castle in the Sky.

Throughout his long career, Mine collaborated frequently with many prominent figures in the voice acting industry. His frequent collaborators included Ichirō Nagai, with whom he worked on productions such as Castle in the Sky and Sazae-san, and Akira Kamiya, with credits including The Anime Three Musketeers. He also worked repeatedly with voice actors like Kōsei Tomita, Kei Tomiyama, and Yoshito Yasuhara.

While not known for receiving major public awards, Eken Mine's legacy is defined by his consistent, reliable performances and his ability to bring even minor characters to life. His decades of work left a lasting impression on the Japanese animation and dubbing industries, and he is fondly remembered by fans and colleagues for his positive energy and dedication to his craft. His son-in-law is also a voice actor, continuing the family's connection to the industry.
