Description
"Arion" is a 1986 anime film directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, based on Greek mythology with a focus on the gods and their conflicts. The story centers on Arion, a young boy raised by the god of the underworld, Hades, who is unaware of his true heritage. Hades manipulates Arion into believing that Zeus, the king of the gods, is responsible for the death of his mother, Demeter, and the suffering of humanity. Arion is trained as a warrior to seek vengeance against Zeus and the Olympian gods.

The narrative unfolds as Arion embarks on a journey to confront Zeus, encountering various mythological figures and challenges along the way. He is accompanied by a blind girl named Lesphina, who becomes a key figure in his quest. As Arion progresses, he begins to uncover the truth about his origins and the complex web of deceit woven by Hades. It is revealed that Arion is actually the son of Zeus and Demeter, making him a demigod with immense power. Hades' manipulation is part of a larger scheme to overthrow Zeus and seize control of Olympus.

The conflict escalates as Arion is forced to confront his own identity and the moral ambiguities of the gods' actions. The story delves into themes of power, betrayal, and the struggle between fate and free will. Arion's journey is marked by intense battles, alliances with other mythological beings, and a deepening understanding of the divine politics that shape his world. The climax sees Arion facing Zeus in a decisive confrontation, where he must reconcile his personal vendetta with the broader implications of his actions.

The film features a rich cast of characters from Greek mythology, including Apollo, Athena, and Poseidon, each playing significant roles in the unfolding drama. The narrative is driven by Arion's internal conflict and his evolving relationships with those around him, particularly Lesphina, who represents a connection to humanity and compassion amidst the divine machinations. The story concludes with Arion making a choice that ultimately determines the fate of both gods and mortals, highlighting the enduring struggle between power and morality.
