Description
Paragus, a Saiyan military colonel under King Vegeta, rebelled when the king, driven by jealousy over his infant son Broly’s extraordinary power surpassing Prince Vegeta’s, ordered the child’s execution. Fleeing with Broly, Paragus crash-landed on the barren planet Vampa, where he murdered his comrade Beets to conserve supplies and devoted decades to molding Broly into a weapon of vengeance. The harsh environment aged Paragus prematurely, etching his once-youthful Saiyan features with gray hair, scars, and a weathered beard.
To dominate Broly, Paragus severed his son’s tail to block Great Ape transformations and enforced obedience through an electric shock collar. Though he sabotaged Broly’s bond with a native creature, Ba, by maiming it, Paragus occasionally revealed pride in his son’s combat prowess while prioritizing survival above all. His manipulation intertwined with fleeting paternal concern, evident during Broly’s clashes against Goku and Vegeta.
Allying with Frieza to exact revenge on Vegeta’s lineage, Paragus grew desperate as Broly faltered against the Saiyans’ ascended forms. In his final moments, he begrudgingly acknowledged King Vegeta’s long-ago fears of Broly’s destructive potential—an epiphany cut short by Frieza’s lethal Death Beam, intended to unleash Broly’s Super Saiyan rage. Paragus’ body disintegrated in the ensuing battle.
A tactician versed in Saiyan biology, Paragus honed Broly into a peerless warrior, though his vengeful obsession eclipsed paternal bonds. His Dragon Ball Super: Broly design highlighted aged deterioration and Frieza Force armor, diverging from prior depictions. Non-canonical video game adaptations expanded his arsenal with moves like "Command of Revenge," reflecting his strategic ruthlessness.
Rooted in Saiyan naming conventions via "asparagus," Paragus’ arc dissects parental exploitation and ambition’s toll, contrasting his Dragon Ball Z counterpart through nuanced emotional layers and a complex, if toxic, dynamic with Broly.
