Yoshino Takamori
Description
Yoshino Takamori is a Japanese voice actress born on November 23, 1963, in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent management firm ARTSVISION. Her career began in 1984 and she has remained active in the industry for decades.
Takamori's path to voice acting was shaped by an early and extensive musical education. She began learning piano at the age of three and later graduated from high school attached to the Tokyo College of Music before entering the college's piano department. During her university years, she applied for an amateur voice actor contest sponsored by a broadcasting station. Although she was not selected, the experience sparked her interest in the profession. In 1983, during her sophomore year, she enrolled in the Katsuta Voice Actor Academy, studying under veteran voice actor Hisashi Katsuta as part of the academy's second graduating class. She made her debut as a voice actress in the fall of 1984 while still a student, landing the role of the heroine Patty Pumpkin in the television anime Super Power Robot Garat.
Following her debut, Takamori joined ARTSVISION and quickly began securing roles. In 1985, she played her first lead role as Judy in the television anime Honō no Alpen Rose: Judy & Randy. Initially, she was often cast in child roles, but in 1987, she took on her first adult part as Sawako Matsumoto in the television anime Manga Nihon Keizai Nyumon. Her career gained significant momentum in the late 1980s and 1990s. She voiced Anice Farm in the 1988 television series Sonic Soldier Borgman and went on to reprise this role in several related OVAs, including Sonic Soldier Borgman: Lover's Rain and Sonic Soldier Borgman: Last Battle. A landmark role came in 1990 when she was cast as the titular character Nadia in the acclaimed television anime series Nadia of the Mysterious Seas, directed by Hideaki Anno. This performance is widely considered one of her most iconic and representative works.
After marrying a dentist in 1990, Takamori took a significant step back from her voice acting career to focus on raising a family. She resumed regular voice acting work in the early 2000s. Upon her return, her roles matured, and she became known for portraying mothers and other adult characters. Notable roles from this later period include Trisha Elric, the mother of the protagonists, in the 2003 series Fullmetal Alchemist, a role she also played in the 2009 remake Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. She also voiced Juliet Douglas, also known as Sloth, in the Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium Collection OVA. Another prominent role in the 2000s was Hanabi Kitaoji in the Sakura Taisen: Le Nouveau Paris OVA and related games. In the 2010s, she gained recognition among a new generation of anime fans for her performance as Carla Yeager, the mother of the main character, in the global hit series Attack on Titan, a role she played from 2013 onwards.
Over the course of her extensive career, Takamori has voiced a wide variety of other characters across television, OVA, and film. A selection of her many roles includes Lui in Fist of the North Star 2, Nagisa Kisaragi in FireStorm, Yasuko Nakata in Idol Densetsu Eriko, Ran-Hime in Raven Tengu Kabuto, Mrs. Kobayashi in What's Michael? and its sequel, Eri Hayami in Circuit no Ohkami II: Modena no Tsurugi, Shoko Iwasaki in Pops, Judy in Honoo no Alpen Rose: Judy & Randy, Riko in Dragon Century, Azalea Latwick in Locke the Superman: New World Command, Ine in Project A-ko 2: Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group, Laika Strange in Lightning Trap - Leina & Laika, Seiko Suzuki in Someday's Dreamers II: Sora, and Tomoko Kitabatake in Raiyantsūrii no Uta.
Takamori's background in music has been a complement to her voice acting career. She has sung character songs for various anime and released a solo mini-album titled Koishikute. Her family life also connects to the industry; her daughter, Akiha Matsui, is also a voice actress.
