Description
Sōichirō Hoshi is a veteran Japanese voice actor and singer born on May 30, 1972, in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan. He has been active in the industry since 1995 and is affiliated with the talent agency Arts Vision. Throughout his career, he has also used the pseudonym Takeshi Aiba for certain roles.

Hoshi is widely recognized for his extensive voice work in anime and video games. One of his most iconic and long-running roles is Kira Yamato in the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, including Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, and the 2024 film Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom. Another significant role is Son Goku in the various Saiyuki anime series, such as Gensomaden Saiyuki and Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN-. He also voices Keiichi Maebara in the Higurashi: When They Cry series and Tomoki Sakurai in Heaven's Lost Property. In the Sengoku Basara franchise, he portrays the character Sanada Yukimura. His filmography also includes roles like Kazuki Fuuchouin in GetBackers, Masaru Daimon in Digimon Savers, and Sentarō Miya in Kono Oto Tomare!: Sounds of Life.

Beyond these long-standing parts, Hoshi has demonstrated a wide vocal range, taking on a variety of characters from heroes to villains. Notable examples include his performances as Goro Akechi in Persona 5 the Animation, Death Gun in Sword Art Online, and Popuko in one iteration of the surreal comedy Pop Team Epic. He has also voiced Momo in the IDOLiSH7 series, Prince Hydron in Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia, and characters in major franchises like.hack and Macross Frontier.

His work has earned him recognition and several awards within the industry. He won the Grand Prix for best voice actor in the Animage Anime Grand Prix in 2003, 2006, and 2007. He was also a nominee for "Best Actor in Supporting Roles" at the 1st Seiyu Awards for his performance as Kira Yamato. Most recently, at the 19th Seiyu Awards in 2025, he received the Kei Tomiyama Award, which honors a voice actor for their work across various media. In that same year, the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed series was awarded the Synergy Award, with Hoshi appearing to accept it on behalf of the cast.
