Yōsuke Akimoto, born on February 5, 1944, in Tokyo, is a veteran Japanese voice actor and stage actor. His real name is Yukio Tajika. He stands 173cm tall. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Hosei University, he attended the Bungakuza Training School. He began his career as a stage and television drama actor in the 1960s before transitioning to voice acting in 1981. He has been affiliated with several agencies throughout his career, including Mausu Promotion (formerly Ezaki Production), Office PAC, and as of 2025, PACage.
Akimoto is renowned for his deep, powerful, and versatile voice, which has allowed him to portray a wide range of characters, from charismatic villains and legendary mentors to warm fatherly figures. One of his most iconic and beloved roles is Master Asia, also known as Tōhō Fuhai, the Undefeated Master of the East, in the 1994 series Mobile Fighter G Gundam. He also voiced the series' narrator, Stalker. He has a strong personal attachment to the role of Master Asia and continues to receive offers to reprise it in various projects and video games nearly every year.
His extensive filmography includes a significant number of roles in the Gundam franchise. Beyond his work in G Gundam, he is known for playing Siegel Clyne in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its special editions, Steiner Hardy in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, and Dick Allen in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.
Akimoto has had a long and productive collaboration with director Yasuhiro Imagawa, appearing in many of his works in key roles, such as Shockwave Alberto in Giant Robo: The Animation. His other notable anime roles include Gardi in Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos, Dr. Fuji in Pokémon: The First Movie, Robert Reynold in Stratos 4, Alfred in Princess Lover!, Principal Kaieda in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira, Akihiko Asai (the cafe master) in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!, and one of the lead characters, Pipimi, in the surreal comedy Pop Team Epic. His live-action and voice work also extends to tokusatsu and dubbing foreign films and television series for the Japanese market.
