Sango hailed from a village of professional demon slayers, serving as one of its most formidable warriors under her father's leadership. She shared a deep bond with her younger brother, Kohaku. Trained since childhood, she wielded the massive bone boomerang Hiraikotsu and fought alongside her loyal nekomata companion, Kirara, who could transform into a larger, flying form. The village historically guarded the Shikon Jewel before its transfer to Kikyō, and Sango undertook missions involving its shards, demonstrating her expertise and her father's trust. Naraku, a powerful demon, shattered her life by orchestrating the slaughter of her village and fellow slayers. He manipulated Kohaku under mind control to commit the killings, resulting in their father's death. Sango survived but was deceived by Naraku into blaming the half-demon Inuyasha. Consumed by vengeance and using a Shikon shard to numb her pain, she attacked Inuyasha before uncovering Naraku's treachery. Naraku further tormented her by reviving Kohaku with a jewel shard, keeping him under continuous control to ensure her compliance. Joining Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi, Miroku, and Shippō on their quest to defeat Naraku and gather the Shikon shards, Sango remained primarily focused on rescuing Kohaku. This mission drove her actions, leading her to confront him during Naraku's schemes at Mount Hakurei and later at a castle guarded by the Infant. She grappled with the moral weight of his forced atrocities, struggling to reconcile saving him with the horrors he committed. Her relationship with the monk Miroku evolved significantly. Though frequently exasperated by his lecherous behavior, mutual feelings developed. A pivotal moment occurred after Naraku's poisonous insects nearly killed her at Mount Hakurei, and Miroku protected her using his cursed Wind Tunnel. Later, in a women-only village, jealousy over his flirtations led to a confrontation where she was temporarily possessed. Afterwards, Miroku confessed deeper regard, proposing marriage and children if they survived Naraku and his Wind Tunnel curse was broken. Sango accepted, securing his promise to cease pursuing other women. Sango's resolve to save Kohaku intensified after witnessing his regained memories during an attack by endless demon rats. Unaware he feigned loyalty to destroy Naraku from within, further conflict ensued. Her dedication culminated in physical confrontations where she prioritized his safety, even as he fled. Despite setbacks, her persistence symbolized an unwavering commitment to reclaiming their bond and freeing him from Naraku's grasp.
