Description
Monkey D. Luffy drives the narrative as captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. When Nami collapses from a severe fever during a storm, her urgent need for unavailable medical aid forces the crew to seek help on Drum Island. Arriving there, Luffy encounters hostile locals. Displaying rare humility, he bows and personally begs villagers for passage to secure treatment for Nami, highlighting his dedication to crew protection. Trekking toward Drum Castle, he carries Nami through brutal cold and physical peril, narrowly escaping burial by an avalanche thanks to Sanji’s intervention. Persisting through near-fatal conditions, he reaches the summit where Chopper rescues him from collapse.

Luffy exhibits enhanced combat skills against Wapol and the new antagonist Musshuru (Wapol’s brother). He activates Gear Second and Gear Third, matching Musshuru’s speed and landing a finishing Gigant Pistol strike after Robin administers an antidote to counteract poisoning. He physically shields Dr. Hiriluk’s symbolic flag from Wapol’s assault, demonstrating grasp of inherited convictions.

Key deviations from the original storyline include Nico Robin and Franky’s presence as crewmates, the Thousand Sunny replacing the Going Merry, and Vivi’s absence. Luffy’s use of post-Enies Lobby abilities (Gear Second/Gear Third) cements this as an alternate timeline. His physical traits remain unchanged: recognizable by his straw hat, resilience during the mountain climb, and susceptibility to extreme cold.

The 2014 special edition recontextualizes events as Chopper’s dream during the post-timeskip era, framing Luffy’s actions through Chopper’s subconscious memory of their initial encounter.
