Ai Fairouz
Description
Ai Fairouz is a Japanese voice actor known for her dynamic and energetic performances across a wide range of anime series and video games. She was born on July 6, 1993, in Tokyo, to an Egyptian father and a Japanese mother. Her first name, Ai, is inspired by the Lebanese singer Fairuz. She spent part of her elementary school years attending the Cairo Japanese School in Egypt, which made her fluent in Arabic. After returning to Japan, she developed a deep passion for the manga and anime series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure during her junior high school years. This passion led her to participate in online reading sessions of the series with other fans and ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in voice acting.
Her parents were initially opposed to her career choice, so after high school, she attended a vocational school for graphic design and later worked as a dental assistant for a year to save money for her tuition. She then enrolled in the Pro-Fit voice acting training school and, after graduating, became affiliated with the Pro-Fit agency in 2018.
Fairouz made her debut in 2019, with her first major role being Hibiki Sakura, the protagonist of the anime television series How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?. For this role, she also performed the series' opening theme song, Onegai Muscle, with fellow voice actor Kaito Ishikawa. That same year, she was cast as Emily Orange in Kandagawa Jet Girls and as Eripiyo in If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die. In 2020, her impactful debut was recognized when she was one of the recipients of the Best New Actress Award at the 14th Seiyu Awards.
Her career continued to flourish with a variety of prominent roles. In 2021, she voiced the lead character Manatsu Natsuumi, also known as Cure Summer, in Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure. Other roles from this period include Alicia in Full Dive, Rin Akagi in Rumble Garanndoll, and Tokiwa Anzai in Mewkledreamy.
A significant milestone in her career was achieving her long-held dream of voicing a character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In April 2021, it was announced that she would voice Jolyne Cujoh, the protagonist of the sixth story arc, Stone Ocean. This role brought her widespread recognition. Following the closure of Pro-Fit in March 2022, she moved to the agency Raccoon Dog, which was founded by voice actor Nobuhiko Okamoto. Her notable roles from 2022 onward include Delta in The Eminence in Shadow, Power in Chainsaw Man, Kay Arte in Monster Girl Doctor, Takechiyo in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and its second act, and Nyandestar in Yu-Gi-Oh!
