Staffel 1
1Walking Party
The episode opens with the party of Sakuya, Tobias, and Mary attempting to observe a high-level raid on the formidable boss monster, The One Sin. Seeking a better vantage point, Sakuya inadvertently triggers a trap that decimates the raiding guild, Yata Mirror, led by Shamrock. The following day, the three friends discover a bounty has been placed on their characters by players named Iyoten and Asta, forcing them into hiding within the game world. While Sakuya is alone in the town of Mac Anu, she encounters a mysterious cat-like player character named Hermit. Iyoten and Asta soon capture Sakuya and Hermit using illegal cheat items, but Tobias and Mary arrive to help them escape. During the ensuing chase, Shamrock and her guild intervene, revealing that Iyoten and Asta, not her guild, were responsible for the bounty. In the chaos, Iyoten pushes Hermit into an abyss, a player kill that triggers a catastrophic data anomaly. All players in the vicinity are warped to a distorted server area featuring a massive dead tree, where a malevolent AI entity begins corrupting player characters and imprisoning them. Tobias instructs the others to log out and does so successfully, but Sakuya's attempt is interrupted by the AI. Mary attacks the entity to protect Sakuya, which results in her own character being corrupted and seemingly absorbed into the game. As Sakuya reaches for her friend, she is knocked unconscious, leaving her trapped within the malfunctioning game world while her companion faces an unknown fate.
2WIRED PRISONER
Hermit awakens in the enigmatic area where players were corrupted, discovering that most have vanished or been consumed. He searches for a specific list among the discarded items, eventually hiring the hacker Geek to compile a new one for identifying the afflicted individuals. Simultaneously, Sakuya's player, Asumi, regains consciousness in a hospital alongside Mary's player, Eri, who remains in a coma. Medical staff attribute the incident to prolonged gameplay, but Asumi experiences persistent tingling in her right hand—the same hand that touched Mary during the anomalous event. Asumi and Tobias's player, Iori, grow suspicious when Eri is quietly transferred to a hospital affiliated with CC Corporation, The World's operator. Iori uncovers urban legends about players' consciousness being trapped within the game, heightening their concern. Sakuya discovers Hermit's original list in her inventory and, with Iori, begins investigating its significance. They receive a real-world summons from a woman named Reiko Saeki, the player behind Shamrock, who possesses knowledge of the list's origins. Hermit meets with Geek, learning that the comatose players' minds are connected to a quantum computer, making their rescue technically complex. Shamrock reveals to Sakuya and Tobias that the list compares players' haplotypes against that of an American boy who died seven years prior. Hermit secretly overhears this conversation and reacts with shock upon realizing the boy is deceased, angrily exclaiming that his efforts were wasted. Shamrock demonstrates the list's hacking capabilities by accessing Sakuya's personal data, inadvertently identifying her as a compatible donor. Data bugs suddenly overrun Mac Anu, and a corrupted version of Mary materializes to attack Sakuya. Shamrock's Data Drain proves ineffective against the manifestation, forcing her to use a wide-area attack to eliminate all players present, ensuring their safety from the encroaching corruption.
3the ωorldend Pallbearer
Shamrock examines Sakuya's right hand and concludes that Asumi is a partial lost one, as her in-game hand has been absorbed by the system, explaining the persistent tingling she feels in reality and her ability to perceive virtual sensations through that limb. Sakuya reveals that on the night Mac Anu was attacked, Eri's real-life condition temporarily improved before she relapsed into a deep coma, confirming that the corrupted in-game version of Mary is connected to the real Eri and that the data drain provided only a fleeting benefit. Despite Shamrock's warning that Sakuya is being targeted and should avoid logging in, Tobias attends a large-scale in-game event to investigate a suspicious forum post, only to witness players experiencing real pain from virtual attacks before massive data bugs overrun the area. Sakuya ignores the warning and logs in to assist, inadvertently discovering that her corrupted hand can delete the data bugs with a single touch, allowing the other players a chance to flee from a colossal, animated statue. Meanwhile, Hermit descends further into instability, deleting a player and destroying an airship, while Shamrock detains and interrogates Geek about his employer, forcibly reminding him of the stakes by demonstrating that pain is now real within the game. Shamrock commandeers a powerful weapon called the crest gun, using Sakuya's unique power to complete its hack, and orders her guild to funnel all players to the safety of the Chaos Gate section as the data bugs invade the town. Hermit sends Sakuya a message claiming that Eri is located in Megin Fi, prompting Sakuya to rush to the chaos gate; Shamrock's guild members physically restrain her to prevent her from walking into a trap, sending Tobias alone in her stead. Tobias follows strange veins downward in Megin Fi, seeking the core of the corruption, but is captured by the corrupted Eri and Hermit, who declares that the heart cannot be destroyed until Sakuya arrives. Sakuya breaks free from her restraints and races toward the chaos gate, setting the stage for a direct confrontation between her desire to save her friend and Hermit's obsession with forcing that reunion.
