Saeko Shimazu is a veteran Japanese voice actress and narrator, born on September 8, 1959, in Kanagawa Prefecture. She began her career in 1980, with her debut role as Nana Mikazuki in the television anime Time Patrol Otasukeman. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she became a prominent figure in the anime industry, known for her versatile vocal range and ability to portray a wide array of characters, from energetic heroines to complex, tragic figures.

Shimazu's filmography is extensive and includes many iconic roles from the golden era of anime. She is particularly noted for her long-standing association with the works of renowned manga artist Rumiko Takahashi, having voiced major characters in four of her most famous series. These roles include Shinobu Miyake in Urusei Yatsura, Sayoko Kuroki in Maison Ikkoku, Kodachi Kuno in Ranma ½, and Princess Abi in Inuyasha. Another significant and recurring role was as Megumi Ayase in the Magical Angel Creamy Mami series and its various sequels and specials.

Her career is also marked by frequent collaborations with director Yoshiyuki Tomino, appearing in several of his mecha anime productions. Notably, she voiced Rag Uralo in Combat Mecha Xabungle, Oldna Poseidal in Heavy Metal L-Gaim, and the memorable role of Four Murasame in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, a character she also reprised in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and numerous related video games. She was also the voice of Yuri in the Dirty Pair series and its associated films and OVAs.

Beyond television and film, Shimazu has been active in original video animations (OVA) and video games. Her OVA credits include Akiko Natsume in All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, Glycine Bleumer in the Sakura Wars series, and Lunn in Lunn Flies into the Wind. In the realm of video games, she is known for her work in the Sakura Wars series, Tales of Destiny 2, and numerous entries in the Super Robot Wars franchise. In recognition of her impact on the industry, she won the Voice Actress of the Year award at the 8th Anime Grand Prix in 1985. She continues to be active in the industry as a freelancer, contributing her voice to anime, games, and narration work.
