Description
Conan Edogawa is the alias taken by Shinichi Kudo after the Black Organization forcibly administered the experimental poison APTX 4869, causing his physical regression to that of a six- or seven-year-old while leaving his cognitive abilities, memories, and deductive skills fully intact. To shield himself and loved ones from the syndicate, he adopted this identity, inspired by authors Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Ranpo. He resides with his childhood friend Ran Mouri and her father, detective Kogoro Mouri, gaining access to cases potentially connected to the organization.

His personality navigates the duality of maintaining a childlike facade while possessing an adult intellect. He addresses Ran affectionately as "Ran-neechan" and uses childish exclamations like "Ah-le-le?" to project innocence. During investigations, however, he often slips into complex deductions or displays advanced knowledge, hastily attributing these lapses to television, Kogoro, Professor Agasa, or Shinichi himself. This contrast creates awkward moments, especially when Ran confides her feelings for Shinichi or during situations like communal bathing. He retains his passion for soccer and Sherlock Holmes, though he must temper these interests around unsuspecting adults.

To compensate for his physical limitations, he utilizes ingenious gadgets invented by Professor Agasa. These include a voice-changing bowtie for impersonating Kogoro (creating the "Sleeping Kogoro" persona), power-enhancing kick shoes for subduing criminals, modified tracking glasses, a tranquilizer wristwatch, and a solar-powered skateboard. His soccer skills translate into precise kicking, amplified by the enhanced shoes. A notable weakness is his tone-deafness, impacting his singing accuracy.

Attending Teitan Elementary School led to forming the Detective Boys with classmates Ayumi Yoshida, Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya, and Genta Kojima. Solving cases with them frequently challenges his efforts to fully mask his deductive prowess. He also cooperates with allies aware of his true identity, including Heiji Hattori (who deduced it early on) and Ai Haibara (the creator of APTX 4869 who regressed similarly and provides temporary antidotes). These antidotes allow brief reversions to his Shinichi form, used to uphold the pretense of his absence due to a "difficult case" for Ran, confront critical situations, and culminate in a mutual romantic confession with Ran in London.

His pursuit of the Black Organization involves investigating figures like Vermouth, Kir (a CIA infiltrator), Bourbon (a PSB officer), and Rum (the organization's second-in-command), seeking connections to its mysterious leader. He frequently clashes with the phantom thief Kaito Kid, whose real identity is Kaito Kuroba—later revealed as his cousin. Their confrontations began with Kid's attempt to steal the Black Star pearl, where Kid impersonated Ran and escaped after revealing knowledge of Conan's secret. Subsequent encounters occur across various heists, such as Kid targeting a sword in Hakodate, with new footage showing Kid challenging Conan to stop him, a challenge Conan confidently accepts.

Beyond the main series, his experiences include being kidnapped in the TV special "The Disappearance of Conan Edogawa: The Worst Two Days in History." After witnessing suspicious activity at a bathhouse, he played amnesiac upon capture by assassins to disrupt their bomb plot, ultimately collaborating with one reformed assailant to neutralize the threat. He also appears in crossover films like "Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie" and multiple "Detective Conan" theatrical releases, often featuring joint investigations or further confrontations with Kid, such as retrieving Pandora gems or thwarting large-scale crimes.

His overarching goals remain dismantling the Black Organization, securing a permanent antidote to APTX 4869, and resuming life as Shinichi Kudo. Throughout this pursuit, he continues solving cases, protecting innocents, and managing the complexities of his concealed identity.
