TV Special
Description
Tony Tony Chopper hails from Drum Island, born a reindeer ostracized by his herd for his unnatural blue nose. Eating the Hito Hito no Mi, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit granting human transformations and heightened intelligence, only worsened his rejection. Humans also attacked him, fearing his hybrid form as monstrous. He found refuge with Dr. Hiriluk, who named him and became his surrogate father. Driven by devotion, Chopper risked his life to retrieve a poisonous mushroom, mistakenly believing it could cure Hiriluk's terminal illness. This act left him severely injured, including a broken antler later reinforced with metal. Hiriluk consumed the mushroom to spare Chopper guilt and died soon after. Dr. Kureha then took Chopper as her apprentice, training him in medicine for five years. During this period, he developed the Rumble Ball, a drug enabling transformations beyond his standard three forms, though early use triggered uncontrollable rampages.

Chopper typically appears in his toddler-sized hybrid form, the common Brain Point, featuring dark brown fur, a prominent blue nose, and a cherished pink top hat adorned with a medical cross – a memento from Hiriluk. His transformations encompass a full human form (Heavy Point), a reindeer form (Walk Point), and hybrid variations accessed via the Rumble Ball. Post-timeskip observations note a leaner physique, lighter fur, larger antlers, and new forms such as Kung Fu Point. His attire now sports a blue-buckled hat worn over his original pink hat, striped tank tops, and arc-specific outfits like samurai armor in Wano Country.

Personality assessments portray Chopper as naïve, kind-hearted, and deeply emotional. He exhibits childlike traits, including gullibility – especially towards Usopp's tales – and intense reactions to compliments, often performing a signature dance while denying his happiness. He adheres strictly to medical ethics, prioritizing patient care regardless of affiliation and expressing fury at those who weaponize diseases or endanger lives, as seen confronting Caesar Clown or Queen. Though initially timid in combat, he fights fiercely to protect allies, patients, or ideals like Hiriluk's legacy. His dream is to cure any disease, fulfilling Hiriluk's belief that no illness is incurable. He holds profound loyalty to the Straw Hat Pirates, viewing them as family.

In "Protect! The Last Great Stage," Chopper appears with the Straw Hat crew attending ex-Marine Randolph's farewell performance. When actors abandon the production, Chopper and the crew step in as replacements. Technical mishaps plague the first act due to crew inexperience, though Randolph's performance holds the audience. After Randolph discovers Luffy's pirate identity – sparking hostility due to pirates murdering his family – he delays confrontation to continue the play. Chopper aids in defending Randolph when Marine Commander Governor falsely accuses him of arms trafficking. This culminates in the Straw Hats protecting Randolph's ship during the second act, allowing Randolph to deliver a revised monologue renouncing his blanket hatred of pirates. Chopper actively combats Governor's forces, boarding a Marine vessel alongside Luffy to incapacitate soldiers.

A recurring comedic element involves characters misidentifying Chopper as a tanuki (raccoon dog) in his hybrid form, provoking irritated corrections emphasizing his reindeer species. This occurs within the special and broader series narratives.
