Shinpachi Tsuji is a seasoned Japanese voice actor and actor, born on October 20, 1956, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent management firm Stay Luck, having been previously represented by other notable agencies such as Ken Production and Office PAC. His real name is Shinichi Kotani. Standing 168 cm tall with blood type O, Tsuji also holds a second-degree black belt in kendo.
Tsuji's path to performance began after he withdrew from Chuo University, where he was a law major, to pursue acting. He trained at the Bungakuza acting school, making his stage debut in 1981. His voice acting career took off in the late 1980s, and he has since become a prolific figure in anime, video games, and foreign language dubbing. Beyond his voice work, he is the president of his own theater company, Oya Hachi Kai, which focuses on reading plays.
Tsuji has built an extensive and varied portfolio of anime roles, often portraying older, authoritative, or rough-and-tumble male characters due to his distinct, gravelly voice. He is widely recognized for the long-running role of Makarov Dreyar, the beloved third-generation master of the Fairy Tail guild, in the Fairy Tail series.
