Gerrit Schmidt-Foß

Description
Gerrit Schmidt-Foß is a German actor and voice artist born in Berlin on September 15, 1975. He comes from a family with a strong background in voice acting, being the younger brother of Dennis and Florian Schmidt-Foß, who are also well-known in the German dubbing industry. Schmidt-Foß began his career in the entertainment business at a very young age, starting with radio plays at the age of seven and subsequently being placed in Berlin dubbing studios.

While Schmidt-Foß is widely recognized as the official German dubbing voice for actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Renner, his extensive work in the field of anime dubbing constitutes a significant part of his career. He is particularly well-known in the German anime community for his long-standing association with the Dragon Ball franchise. He provides the German voice for the powerful Saiyan warrior Broly, a role he has performed across multiple films. This includes the 1990s films Dragon Ball Z: Der legendäre Super-Saiyajin and Dragon Ball Z - Brolys Rückkehr, as well as the more recent theatrical releases Dragon Ball Super: Broly from 2018 and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero from 2022. His return to the role of Broly for the German version of Dragon Ball Super: Broly was noted for bringing back the character's original German voice from earlier films.

Beyond the Dragon Ball series, Schmidt-Foß has lent his voice to a wide array of other anime characters. In the 1998 adventure series Flint the Time Detective, he voiced the character Dr. Bernard Goodman in the German adaptation. He is also the German voice of Seto Kaiba, a central character from the long-running series Yu-Gi-Oh!. His other anime credits include roles in popular and influential series such as Sailor Moon, One Piece, InuYasha, Naruto, and Detektiv Conan. He also voiced the character Kensuke Aida in the classic series Neon Genesis Evangelion. In the video game realm, which often overlaps with voice acting, he has provided voices for characters in titles like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, StarCraft II, and various games based on the Dragon Ball franchise.

In addition to his work in front of the microphone, Gerrit Schmidt-Foß is also active behind the scenes as a dialogue writer and dubbing director. He has been responsible for the German scripts and direction of numerous films, demonstrating his broad expertise in the localization process.
