Description
Chafurin is the stage name of Hirotaka Shimazawa, a veteran Japanese voice actor and narrator born on December 4, 1961, in Saitama Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency Office Osawa. A graduate of Toyo University's Faculty of Economics, his unique stage name is an evolution of the name of comedy icon Charlie Chaplin. He began his voice acting career in the late 1980s and has since built a prolific and enduring presence in the Japanese anime industry.
Chafurin is widely recognized for his ability to portray a diverse range of characters, from authoritative figures to comedic and sometimes villainous roles. He is particularly renowned for his long-running performances in several of Japan's most beloved and long-lasting anime series. His most iconic role is that of Inspector Juzo Megure in the immensely popular detective series Case Closed (Detective Conan), a character he has voiced since the series began in 1996. He also provides the voice for Kimio Nagasawa in Chibi Maruko-chan and has been the voice of Shimajiro's father in the long-running educational series Shimajiro since 1993.
