Chafurin is the stage name of Hirotaka Shimazawa, a veteran Japanese voice actor and narrator born on December 4, 1961, in Saitama Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency Office Osawa. A graduate of Toyo University's Faculty of Economics, his unique stage name is an evolution of the name of comedy icon Charlie Chaplin. He began his voice acting career in the late 1980s and has since built a prolific and enduring presence in the Japanese anime industry.

Chafurin is widely recognized for his ability to portray a diverse range of characters, from authoritative figures to comedic and sometimes villainous roles. He is particularly renowned for his long-running performances in several of Japan's most beloved and long-lasting anime series. His most iconic role is that of Inspector Juzo Megure in the immensely popular detective series Case Closed (Detective Conan), a character he has voiced since the series began in 1996. He also provides the voice for Kimio Nagasawa in Chibi Maruko-chan and has been the voice of Shimajiro's father in the long-running educational series Shimajiro since 1993. In 2014, he took on the significant role of Namihei Isono in Sazae-san, succeeding the original voice actor after his passing.

Beyond these household-name series, Chafurin's filmography is extensive and varied. He has lent his voice to major franchises such as Gintama (as Henpeita Takechi), One Piece (as Saint Charlos), and the Higurashi: When They Cry series (as Kuraudo Oishi). His credits also include roles in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Death Note, Bleach, and many others. In addition to anime, his work spans video games, where he is known for roles such as The Duke in Resident Evil Village, and dubbed versions of foreign films and television series.

Throughout his career, Chafurin has demonstrated a remarkable consistency and versatility. His collaborations with long-running productions highlight his status as a trusted and enduring talent in the voice acting community.
