Mario Zucca

Description
Mario Zucca is an Italian actor, cabarettista, and voice actor, born in Turin on July 10, 1955. Before gaining national fame, he studied acting and diction with Iginio Bonazzi and began working in cabaret, writing material with Luciano Zaffalon. He became a household name in Italy in 1987 for his catchphrase "Vi amo bastardi" on the popular variety show Drive In. Throughout the 1990s, he was a regular guest on the Maurizio Costanzo Show and also appeared on stage with Vittorio Gassman. His career includes roles in numerous Italian films and television series, often collaborating with directors like Carlo Vanzina.

While Zucca is a versatile performer, he is perhaps best known for his extensive and prolific career as a voice actor, particularly in the realm of animation. His deep and rough timbre has made him the go-to voice for a vast array of powerful, authoritative, or villainous characters in Italian dubs of popular anime and Western cartoons. He has voiced several key roles in the long-running franchise One Piece, including Zeff, Kuroobi, Magellan, and the first voices for Barbanera (Blackbeard) and Monkey D. Dragon. He is also the Italian voice of the imposing Alex Louis Armstrong in both Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, as well as Armstrong's father, Philip Gargantos Armstrong. His work in the Dragon Ball franchise includes the roles of the God of Earth, Al Satan, and later Kahseral in Dragon Ball Super. He is the voice of Batou in numerous iterations of Ghost in the Shell, including the original 1995 film, the Stand Alone Complex series, and SAC 2045. In the Saint Seiya universe, he voiced both Cancer and Hypnos in The Hades Chapter sagas. Among his most notable recent roles are Sakonji Urokodaki, the masked former Water Hashira and trainer of the protagonist in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba; Guiliano Flip in BNA: Brand New Animal; Wilson in the CGI series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness; and Mewtwo in the film Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. His filmography also includes roles in Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen's Gravestone, and the various tales within the World Fairy Tale Series.

Beyond anime, Zucca's distinctive voice is widely recognized in Italy for numerous other iconic roles. He is the long-time Italian voice of Mr. Krabs in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise and Fred Flintstone in various Flintstones productions. He has voiced several characters from the DC and Marvel universes, including an elderly Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Magneto, and Galactus. He also provided the voice for Discord in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Shredder in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. His work extends to live-action dubbing, video games, and he has been the official spokesman for the Italian TV channel Cine34 since 2020.

Zucca has frequently collaborated with his wife, actress and voice actress Marina Thovez, in theatrical and dubbing projects. For his significant contributions to the field of dubbing, he received a special "Voce Cartoon" mention at the eighth edition of the prestigious Leggio d'oro awards in 2011.
