Nanami Momozono, a high school student, finds herself homeless after her father abandons her due to overwhelming debt. While wandering the streets, she saves a man named Mikage from a dog. Grateful, Mikage offers her his home, which turns out to be a rundown shrine. Upon arriving, Nanami discovers that Mikage is actually a land god who has decided to retire, leaving her as his successor. Reluctantly, Nanami accepts the role of the shrine’s deity, inheriting the responsibilities and powers of a god.

Her new life introduces her to Tomoe, a powerful fox yokai who once served Mikage as a familiar. Tomoe is initially hostile and dismissive of Nanami, viewing her as unworthy of the title.
