Description
Meowth participates in the Team Rocket trio with Jessie and James during the events triggered by Arceus's awakening. From a concealed vantage point, they witness Dialga and Palkia's arrival, including Jessie's excitement about the rulers of space and time and Sheena's communication with them. Observing the escalating spatial distortions and legendary Pokémon, their primary objective becomes stealing the Jewel of Life, believed crucial to appease Arceus.
When Sheena presents the Jewel, they see the chaos as an opportunity to capture both it and Arceus. Their scheme is abruptly abandoned when Arceus, enraged upon identifying the Jewel as a fake, destroys the ruins. This sends the trio falling into the river below, thwarting their capture amidst Arceus's judgment on humanity for a past betrayal.
Meowth's background reveals he originated as a Hollywood street Meowth in a Persian-led gang. To impress a female Meowth named Meowzie, he painstakingly taught himself human speech and bipedal locomotion. This transformation permanently prevented him from learning Pay Day and potentially evolving. Meowzie rejected him as a freak, cementing his resentment towards Persians, especially Giovanni's Persian which replaced him as "Top Cat." This rejection led him to join Team Rocket, recalling "rocket" as the first human word he learned.
Within Team Rocket, Meowth acts as the trio's primary strategist and mechanic, often building and controlling their robots. He shares a complex bond with Jessie and James, considering them his only true friends despite frequent exclusion from their dynamics and enduring constant failures in their mission to steal Pikachu. His loyalty to Giovanni persists, often manifesting as elaborate fantasies about impressing the boss. Meowth harbors deep-seated insecurities from repeated romantic rejections by cat-like Pokémon like Skitty, Glameow, illusory Gardevoir, or Lopunny, reflecting his ongoing search for acceptance. His personality blends street-smart cunning with occasional naiveté, such as gaps in understanding type matchups. He possesses the rare capability of Gigantamaxing, a form that makes him biologically superior to the Persian he despises.
