Description
Meowth is a male Normal-type Pokémon and a core Team Rocket member, consistently partnering with Jessie and James. His early life began as a stray on the streets of Hollywood, joining a Meowth gang led by a Persian. There, he met and fell deeply in love with a female Meowth named Meowzie. To win her affection, Meowth taught himself human speech and upright walking. Meowzie rejected him, finding his human-like traits freakish; heartbroken, he joined Team Rocket. The word "Rocket" was the first human word he learned and understood, influencing this choice.

Within Team Rocket, Meowth acts as a strategist and inventor, creating gadgets and vehicles like the Meowth-shaped balloon. His ability to speak human language allows him to translate Pokémon speech for Jessie and James, aiding their operations. The intense focus required for speech and walking upright cost him the ability to learn his species' signature move, Pay Day, weakening his combat effectiveness. He harbors jealousy toward Giovanni's Persian, which replaced him as Giovanni's favored "top cat," driving his ambition to capture powerful Pokémon like Ash's Pikachu to regain status.

Meowth exhibits loyalty to Jessie and James despite frequent arguments, often viewing himself as their superior due to his planning skills. He displays occasional philosophical depth, like lamenting life choices under the moon. While primarily comedic and scheming, he shows empathy for abandoned or mistreated Pokémon, drawing from his own neglect. His personality includes greed, pride, and mischievousness. He forms temporary alliances with Ash's group when necessary, though Pikachu remains distrustful due to past betrayals.

In "Pokémon Heroes," Meowth appears in Alto Mare alongside Jessie and James. The trio observes the independent antagonists Annie and Oakley, briefly tracking their activities without direct engagement in the film's central plot involving Latias and Latios. His role remains ancillary, focused on typical Team Rocket pursuits like chasing Pikachu or reacting to city events, such as having their gelato ruined by a speeding boat.

Meowth retains wild Pokémon status, resisting capture despite encounters with Poké Balls. He avoids evolution due to disdain for Persian and pursues romances with cat-like Pokémon across regions. His history of street survival and self-taught human traits underscore his resilience and unique position as a non-legendary Pokémon capable of direct human communication.
