Movie
Description
Ash Ketchum, a Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town in Kanto, strives to become a Pokémon Master. Beginning his journey at age 10, he received Pikachu from Professor Oak. An unbreakable bond formed when Pikachu protected him from Spearow, defining Ash's training philosophy of mutual trust and cooperation. Traveling across regions, he challenges Gym Leaders, enters Pokémon Leagues, encounters diverse Pokémon, and steadily improves his skills. His achievements include becoming the first Alola League Champion and later the Monarch of the World Coronation Series after defeating Leon.
In "Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel," Ash travels Kalos with friends Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie. Volcanion crashes nearby while pursued by agents of the Azoth Kingdom. An electromagnetic band from Volcanion forcibly tethers itself to Ash. Despite Volcanion's hatred of humans, Ash helps it rescue Magearna, an artificial Pokémon created 500 years ago in the Azoth Kingdom. Councillor Alva stole Magearna's "Soul-Heart" to power a flying fortress for controlling the kingdom.
Ash infiltrates the Azoth Kingdom to recover Magearna, coordinating with Princess Kimia and her Shiny Mega Gardevoir. He battles Alva's forces, including artificially controlled Mega-Evolved Pokémon. During the climax, Ash returns Magearna's Soul-Heart, reviving it after Volcanion sacrifices itself to destroy the fortress. Volcanion later reappears alive, and Ash witnesses its reunion with Magearna at Nebel Plateau. Throughout the film, Ash persists despite the physical tether, protects Pokémon harmed by humans, and allies with distrustful entities like Volcanion.
Ash's broader background shows consistent traits: determination to help others, willingness to form bonds despite initial hostility, and tactical battle adaptability. His team during this period includes Pikachu, Greninja, Talonflame, Hawlucha, and Noivern. His design features black hair, tan skin, brown eyes, and lightning bolt-like cheek markings. He wears a red and white hat, blue collared shirt with white trim, darker blue jeans, fingerless gloves, and red sneakers.
Ash's development across media shows progression from an inexperienced Trainer to a globally recognized champion, though his core motivations remain unchanged. He leaves most Pokémon with Professor Oak or regional professors when traveling, though Pikachu remains his constant companion. Team Rocket frequently pursues him to capture Pikachu, though they are comically thwarted. His victory as World Champion in the Masters Eight Tournament marks the culmination of his goal to become the world's strongest Trainer.
