Hiromi Konno
Description
Hiromi Konno is a veteran Japanese voice actress and narrator, born on September 13, 1975, in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. After graduating from Sapporo University with a degree in Economics, she pursued her interest in voice acting, a field she was drawn to from a young age after learning that the monster voices she enjoyed in television shows were created by voice actors. She trained at Aoni Juku in Tokyo and has been affiliated with the talent agency Aoni Production since 1999.
Konno made her professional debut in 1997 with the role of Rurika Yamamoto in the Sega Saturn game Sentimental Graffiti. This debut connected her with a group of fellow new voice actresses known as the "Rabbit Group," who were part of the larger "SG Girls" unit formed around the game. Her first leading role in a television anime series came in 2002, when she voiced the titular character in Kikō Sen'nyo Rouran (Strange Steel Fairy Rouran). In 2003, she became a member of the voice actor unit "Pastel," formed in connection with a radio program, a group that would later briefly reunite in 2016.
The year 2007 marked a significant turning point in her career, bringing her widespread recognition through two iconic roles. She became the fifth voice actor to play Neko Musume (Cat Girl) in the long-running supernatural series Gegege no Kitarō, a role she would reprise in the 2008 film Gegege no Kitarō: Nippon Bakuretsu!!. Concurrently, she voiced the character Akira Kogami in the popular series Lucky Star. This role showcased her versatility, as Akira is known for her sharp, cynical demeanor that contrasts sharply with the high-energy, runaway train personality she displays as the host of a fictional in-show segment. The character's popularity led to Konno appearing in a live-action enka music video for the series' sixteenth ending theme, and she later reprised the role for the Lucky Star OVA and the web anime Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku.
Another of her most beloved and enduring roles is that of Hakase (The Professor) in the 2011 surreal comedy Nichijou (My Ordinary Life). Her performance as the childlike genius inventor is considered a signature role. She has also been a consistent voice in the popular role-playing game series The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, playing the young tinkerer Tita Russell across multiple game installments and the OVA The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, as well as the comedic short-form anime Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen.
Throughout her career, Konno has demonstrated a wide vocal range, taking on a diverse array of characters. These include roles such as Bastet in the OVA Sakura Taisen: New York NY., Letuchaia in Kiddy Girl-AND, Scarlet Claw in Re: Cutie Honey, Nakua in Princess Resurrection, and Suzume Imamura in the Munto series, which includes the television series Sora o Miageru Shōjo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai. She has voiced Love in the arcade game and film adaptation Love and Berry: Dress Up and Dance - Magic of Happiness, Potato in the adaptation of Key's visual novel AIR, Yoko Arai in Soreike! Zukkoke Sanningumi, and Suzaku in Moeyo Ken. Her work also includes the role of Amo in Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Kenshirō-den and ok-chan in Yume-Miru Anime on-chan. Her versatility extends to dubbing foreign films and series, as well as roles in tokusatsu (live-action special effects) productions like Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger and Kamen Rider Fourze.
In addition to her anime and game work, Konno is active in radio, having hosted several programs related to her projects, and has performed character songs for many of the series she has been a part of. Her natural speaking voice features the Hokkaido dialect, and she was even responsible for supervising dialect usage in the series The Last Weapon Girl to ensure its authenticity. Her career has continued into the 2020s, with recent roles including Potato in the anime Kaginado and the character Kusu/Cosmic Assistant Cosmic in Dragon Ball Super.
