Description
Doraemon emerged from the Matsushiba Robot Factory in 2112 as a robotic caretaker model MS-903. A production mishap involving an electrical bolt impaired his performance, branding him an inferior unit. Originally yellow with ears, he endured a traumatic incident where robotic mice gnawed off his ears; a botched repair then left him permanently bald. Ridiculed by Noramyako, a robotic cat he admired, and unable to afford replacements due to owner Sewashi Nobi's financial struggles, Doraemon consumed a "Potion of Sadness" while weeping. His tears stripped away the yellow paint, leaving him eternally blue and implanting severe musophobia. Sewashi later dispatched him to 20th-century Tokyo to uplift his ancestor Nobita Nobi, reshaping the family’s future.
Physically, Doraemon is a blue, earless robotic cat resembling a raccoon dog—a likeness that irritates him. He features a white face, chest, hands, and feet, circular palms, six whiskers, a red nose, and a large mouth. His tail doubles as a power lever, and a yellow bell hangs from his red collar. His defining trait is a four-dimensional abdominal pocket housing over 1,900 futuristic gadgets. Though his durable metal body includes tactile sensors for pressure, temperature, and pain, his mouth can expand to ingest large objects, converting food directly to energy. His outer skin stains easily but cleans readily.
Doraemon’s personality merges steadfast loyalty with relatable flaws. He radiates optimism and protectiveness, especially toward Nobita, balancing caretaker and friend roles. Yet he harbors intense fears: crippling musophobia, dread of medical check-ups, and insecurity about his missing ears. His obsession with dorayaki often leads to reckless choices or manipulation. Easily provoked by criticism about his appearance or competence, he panics and deploys irrelevant gadgets. Romantic pursuits of other robotic cats occasionally distract him from duties, though he selflessly withdraws if they seem happier without him. Despite his mechanics, he exhibits profound empathy and cherishes friendship.
Within the Doraemons—a septet of robotic cats from his Robot School alma mater—Doraemon typically leads or mediates, bound to the group by "Friendship Telecards" symbolizing their unbreakable bond. His moderate nature and conflict-resolution skills cement his role. A notable physical asset is his extraordinarily hard head, used as a weapon or tool. Team missions showcase his cooperative ethos and gadget-aided teamwork.
Core relationships define Doraemon’s existence. His anchor is Nobita Nobi, whom he supports unconditionally despite the boy’s laziness and failures, forging a deep, friction-prone reliance. He shares a sibling dynamic with his sister robot Dorami, who enforces his annual check-ups and critiques his leniency with Nobita. He respects Shizuka Minamoto, Nobita’s kind-hearted future wife. Among Doraemons comrades like Dora-the-Kid and Wang Dora, he embodies camaraderie and shared purpose during adventures.
