In addition to his acting work, Taniyama has a significant career in music. In 2005, he co-founded the rock duo Granrodeo with composer and guitarist Katsushi Murai, performing as the lead vocalist and lyricist under the name Kishow. The band is known for performing numerous anime theme songs and has released multiple albums and singles, conducting regular nationwide tours in Japan. In 2024, he released his first major solo album, Shinya Reiji, under the moniker KISHOW and embarked on a solo live tour to promote it.
His work has been recognized within the industry. In 2012, he was a recipient of the Best Musical Performance award at the 6th Seiyu Awards as part of the group ST☆RISH from the Uta no Prince-sama series.
