Description
Souta Tawara, a web designer in his late twenties, returns to his hometown in Kagawa Prefecture, a region famous for its udon noodles, after the death of his father. Struggling with feelings of guilt and unresolved emotions about his family, Souta reconnects with his past while taking over his family’s udon restaurant. One day, while visiting a local udon shop, he encounters a mysterious young boy with golden hair and a tail, who turns out to be a shape-shifting tanuki named Poko. Souta takes Poko in, and the two form an unlikely bond as they navigate life together.
The narrative explores Souta’s journey of self-discovery and healing as he reacquaints himself with his hometown, its people, and his family’s legacy. Poko’s presence brings a sense of wonder and innocence to Souta’s life, helping him confront his regrets and reconnect with his estranged mother, who had left the family years earlier. The story also delves into the lives of other characters, such as Souta’s childhood friend Rinko, who runs a local udon shop, and Nakajima, a former classmate who becomes a source of support and camaraderie.
Throughout the series, the themes of family, tradition, and personal growth are interwoven with the cultural backdrop of Kagawa’s udon-making heritage. The relationship between Souta and Poko serves as the emotional core of the story, highlighting the importance of compassion, responsibility, and finding joy in simple moments. The narrative balances lighthearted, whimsical moments with poignant reflections on loss and reconciliation, creating a heartfelt exploration of human connections and the passage of time.
